If I am to be VERY honest, I have to admit that I would be less likely to stay with my current employer if they dropped their (quite excellent) domestic partner insurance coverage.

The health insurance issue affects ALL Americans.

It is unfortunate that employers have to pick up the slack for the government on this vital human need, but I am certainly glad that they do.

Insurance isn't a human need. "Humanity" would do just fine without insurance. In fact, medical technology itself is probably the biggest contribution to overpopulation than anything. Stuff is supposed to die. And I say that with full knowledge that I'm part of the living dead kept alive by medical progress. But the more people we keep alive, the more we'll need medical technology with the inevitable pollution and disease from humans living so densely.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in my post.
I meant that medical care is a vital human need.

Of course I agree, insurance is not a human need.
Insurance has become a necessary evil, a roadblock to medical care.

It sucks that doctors, nurses, medical facilities, medical supply vendors, and contractors want to get paid.
Porches and trophy wives and alimony are expensive.

Nobody objects to paying medical professionals who can help make you better.

They object to paying vast armies of bureaucratic paper pushers at insurance companies, who tell medical professionals how to do their jobs, and tell sick people they aren't covered.

By doing so employers are forced to carry unnecessary overhead and pass on those costs to their customers.

And I agree, more regulation is necessary. Definitely.
