What does that say to you? Now here's another FACT you cannot deny:
Medical Assistance is available to ALL LOW INCOME FAMILIES. State programs like MinnesotaCare are available to ALL MIDDLE-INCOME FAMILIES. A family of 4 that makes over $55,000 per year CAN AFFORD TO BUY THEIR OWN PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE.
So... Every family, with an income of less than $55,000 per year, can get state-funded medical coverage. Only families with an income of over $55,000 per year are NOT eligible for government-assisted healthcare coverage.
HOW IN HECK DO YOU THINK THIS MAKES 40 MILLION AMERICANS WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE? If they don't have health-care coverage, it's because they're CHOOSING NOT TO. The poor in America get government healthcare. Those who are NOT poor can afford to buy it.
WHY DON'T THESE WEALTHY PEOPLE HAVE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE?
Here's another way of looking at it:
1. Every family of four, with an income of less than $55,000 per year is eligible for some sort of government-assisted medical coverage. THAT INCLUDES ALL OF AMERICA'S "POOR".
2. Every family that has more than a $55,000 per year income CAN AFFORD TO PURCHASE THEIR OWN HEALTH INSURANCE. Why aren't they? A family that makes $55,000 per year is making over $4,500 per month. WHY AREN'T THEY PURCHASING HEALTH INSURANCE FOR $500 PER MONTH? It's because they're choosing NOT to.
3. Hospitals and doctors, across the nation, write off hundreds of millions of dollars per year in health-care costs. In other words, people have gotten treatment, but NEVER PAY FOR IT.
Perhaps what some of these "supposed" 40 million people ought to do is SELL THEIR BOAT AND GET HEALTH INSURANCE! Do you suppose that's a possibility? Perhaps they should ask themselves what they need worse: A 6,000 square foot house, or health insurance. Perhaps people who are buying new pickups should be buying health insurance instead!
Perhaps people should take a little personal responsibility! | You did note that I underlined the part of the report that said they were likely overreporting the number of uninsured, didn't you? That I was saying they were stating that the number was likely too high. We don't know how much too high, though, do we? Perhaps you know of a better source than the Census Bureau?
I am not familiar with the state program in Minnesota. I have not investigated the other state programs, but since each state decides eligibility, they are likely different. Do you know of a comparison website with this info? You see, I don't know that every family making 55K qualifies for state coverage unless I actually see it. You didn't provide a source.
I agree that people need to take responsibility for themselves (and their children). |
