Thanks, I'd forgotten about that. Did it cure the tobacco companies from putting the additives and poisons in their products? I doubt it...

I would think it would be appropriate to teach students about these additives, maybe in health class, or civics/government class. Anyone know if any school districts are taking this tack? Any home-schoolers?

IMO, if a PRIVATE restaurant or bar wants to allow smoking, they should be able to do so.

I'm against allowing smoking in any public building or park.

But a business should be allowed to do what they want to do. There are some restaurants and bars that play the freakin music so loud you can't talk to the people you're with - so I don't go there. Before the smoking bans, if there was a place that had a lot of smoke, we didn't go there. If a hotel or motel doesn't have smoke-free rooms, we won't stay there. It's our choice. If there is a restaurant or bar that serves its patrons by topless waitresses, and my mother is visitiing, we don't go there.

I'm against smoking - it's a nasty smelly ugly habit. But I'm even more against the government telling private businesses what LEGAL ACTIONS they can have in their private businesses. It's not as if smoking is (or ever will be) illegal.

Even if they do teach health stuff, a lot of the kids don't think that far ahead, especially if they don't care about conforming or are rebellious.
I started smoking when I was 12, and have tried to quit 6 times, so far. The longest I was able to quit for was 6 weeks, and that was with the help of a patch.
Once you get addicted, you are addicted for life, even if you quit. And if you do quit, it's easy to start up again. So, if you don't smoke, don't start.

I started smoking when I was 12 ... and I smoked for the next 35 years - up to 3 packs a day. I tried everything to stop - the classes; the patch; the gum; accupuncture; hypnosis - nothing worked.

Then I got in a stop-smoking study at Yale ... they gave us Xanax. We took it for two weeks - and then stopped smoking. I TRULY never had a pang. It was so damned easy to quit. And I very very very rarely ever get the urge. In fact - I've become one of those loathesome ex-smokers - I can't STAND to be around the smell.

If anybody wants to quit, I really recommend getting a prescription for the Xanax - and build it up in your system before you stop smoking. It genuinely works.

I would still hope the information is included, even if kids are going to be non-conforming or rebellious.

I tried smoking but never did find it to my liking. It left a nasty taste in my mouth and made me cough.

Good luck on quitting - I know it can be tough as I watched my mom quit.

The more they ban smoking, the more people are going to do it. There will always be some idiots out there ready to break the law. You could outlaw smoking in public park for example, then there would be a group of people who go into the parks and start smoking. You can take away thier freedoms but they will do anything to preserve them.

The cigarette smokes, I am just the sucker on the cold end!
Funny how views differ from person to person, no need to ban people you don't agree with though hey!

Smoking will be my last vice to loose.
One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.
