Dang it, my lighter just ran out of fluid.....

I hate when that happens.
One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.

Smoking is one vise I will never let myself have anything to do with. I see its effects nearly everyday in my line of work as a Hospice Nurse... No thank-you.

I'm going to agree with you, Chris. I personally think that business owners should be able to regulate behavior within their own establishments. You, as a client of that establishment, or a possible client, have the right to either patronize that establishment or not. It's the money that talks, nothing else.
If a tavern owner chooses to ban smoking in his place of business, he, as owner, should be allowed this right. If people who don't smoke do not come to this tavern (or any other business) and the owner loses clientele, and thence money, I think that's the price of doing business.
As far as the health issues are concerned; I am aware of all the risks and the studies to my content. I think it's my choice on whether to indulge in smoking or not. Just like McDonald's, it's our choice on whether we choose to patronize this (and other) fast food restaurants.
There are many automobile accidents that result in immediate death every day. Is anyone proposing a ban on automobiles? Smoking, while not the healthiest thing to do, cannot kill on an immediate basis. Let's weigh these facts before we preach behavior to others.

I've been a smoker for most of my adult life. However, I am making up my mind to quit starting today. Smoking (in my opinion) is the worst habit that a person can do. In other words (quite frankly), it is slow suicide.

My grandfather smoked all his life. Towards the end of his life (after being diagnosed with emphasema), he had to walk around with an oxygen tank wherever he went. Had he not been a smoker, he would still be alive today (I would give anything to talk to my grandfather just one more time). Furthermore, my best friend's dad died two days ago from lung cancer. . .

Most of my other friends (from school or other social outlets) smoke. However, if I have to, I will change my friends. I just don't think that I can be around people like that anymore, for two reasons: 1) I don't want to see my friends kill themselves slowly. 2) I don't want to be enticed into smoking again.

My mom works for a leading oncologist here in Atlanta, and she sees patients with lung cancer every day. All I can tell you is that she comes home every day practically begging me to quit, as she sees things in the office that would scare most smokers to death.

So, if there's anyone out there trying to quit, my message is this: You can do it, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm going to do it now, and I don't want to see another cigarette as long as I live! I just thank God that I am still young enough to quit without any permanent damage to my lungs. . . Hopefully (God willing), I will never go back to that nasty habit. . .

I'd like to understand the hypocracy of the don't smoke crowd, but it's difficult and getting harder. The UN, that much hated useless organization, has an organization called the World Health Organization....it's an organization worshipped by the left as definitive on almost everything healthwise. Yet no one ever brings up the WHO study of second hand smoke.

Why is that? It was a global study, and should be influential in the smoking debate..... Where is the curiosity? What did they determine the facts are on second hand smoke?

ANy takers?
regards, vharlow
