LOL. It's certainly not a part of a society-created taboo. Believe me, I'm sure that everyone knows at least someone that they would NOT want to picture doing anything sexual let alone nude. Besides, being physically attracted and unattracted to people is just as natural as the process of sex and masturbation is.

I mean, come on people, there's a difference between accepting sexuality as natural and flailing your penis into the wind out in public. If every thing's just natural and perfectly alright, then why don't we let our children watch pornography? Hell, why do we have any obscenity laws?

I'm all for accepting it as a natural process, but I'm not for stripping away common courtesy and all sense of privacy either. It's a private matter, and it's not unnatural in anyway for people to want to refrain from speaking about anything that they consider intimate and private and not just masturbation.

So basically, if you catch your kid doing it...don't get all freaked out and punish him and/or send him to a strict bible camp or confessions or anything. BUT, don't go and make it table conversation that's casual as telling someone your favorite food, either.

I don't think anyone is arguing for PUBLIC masturbation... that's just gross. The original question I was proposing is why should we consider masturbation taboo? I mean, people should be able to discuss it an not feel dirty, and our kids should be taught that it is natural and healthy.

Actually I do believe it is presented in health classes in the fifth grade now as a healthy outlet. Though I think there might be an added remark about frequency and how getting athletic is a good means to keep that from becoming one's preoccupation.

I think most classrooms are not that open... I certainly hope they are.

I think Masturbation and Mutual-Masturbation should be presented as alternatives to sex also...
