Rape is wrong because it is a violent attack against someone else in the most intimate of ways, not because it is "illegal". Again, if congress were to pass a law that made it illegal to stop a rape, would it be wrong to stop a rape? No it would not. Being legal does not make something right and being illegal does not make something wrong.

I am not clear on your position. Are you saying that you only thing rape is wrong because it is illegal? And much more important to the topic at hand, do you believe that "illegal" immigration is wrong only because it is illegal?

This is all very simple. What it boils down to is that morality and legality are two different things. Right & Wrong are not synonomous with Legal & Illiegal. I think it is wrong to break the law, but not everything that breaks the law is wrong...

no i just used rape as an example because it is an extreme crime and because i thought could trick you into proving yourself wrong but that plan failed, apparently. i believe that illegal immigration is wrong because it is illegal i am a very law abiding citizen of the United States and resident of Italy.

I think this is the issue that this debate should focus on. As already pointed out, legality does not equal morality. That is why I do not put any stock into the argument that says "Illegal immigration is wrong because it is illegal." That is like saying "I know the Bible is right because it says that it is." There is no support to either claim without outside analysis. We all know that illegal immigration is illegal right now. I think the question should be, "Should it enforced more, less, or even be made legal?"

If you believe illegal immigration is wrong because it is "illegal", then maybe we should make all immigration legal, thus ending the problem...

these are just my customs and we believe the bible is right because ideas like these have been passed down for generations, they then eventually become customs. ok bringing up the rape thing again, why is rape wrong who says that hurting someone or screwing somebody pyschologically is wrong??

For example, stealing bread is illegal, doing so to feed your family when they are hungry is also illegal, but not wrong, not if we define wrong as immoral. Sodomy is technically illegal, but not wrong. Smoking weed is technically illegal, but not wrong. Man-slaughter is illegal, but can be moral. Speeding is illegal but not wrong.

It works the other way around too... For example, having an extramarital affair is immoral, and wrong, but not illegal.

The fact of the matter is that there is a big difference between morality and legality. Laws have little to do with morals, although they frequently parallel morals. Do I think illegal immigration is wrong (immoral)? No. Do I think it is illegal, yes it clearly is. Should it be? That's the debate. However saying that it should be illegal because it is, is no kind of argument at all. If it is, than blacks should go to the back of the bus and women should get the hell out of the voting booths...
