This thread WAS about Immigration Reform - which deals with BOTH documented and undocumented immigrants. It was NOT about illegal immigrants.

I came along and PROVED that a good share of these people you condemn as illegals (and you could NEVER tell which ones are documented and which ones are undocumented) are actually working at high paying jobs. They are NOT destroying the economy. They are NOT taking jobs away from the poor white folks in America.


You don't know CRAP about the immigration process - what makes some Mexicans documented and legal, while others are documented. And you don't know how one goes about getting the right papers.

You can sit there all day and talk about what he doesn't know. Why don't you stop blowing out your butt and enlighten us all since you are obviously the expert on the subject. You're one example of the company, which you have brought up in more than one thread, is not a tell-all-end-all example of what is going on in the country right now. You say they are not destroying the economy and not taking jobs away from people. Where did you come by an idea like that? I'm not challenging its validity, but when you just say it like that it does not get us anywhere. Someone could say the exact opposite, that it does hurt the economy and that illegal immigrants are taking away jobs from people. Both of you have accomplished the same thing. Back up your statement that "a good share" of illegal immigrants "are actually working at high paying jobs".

1. I know what is going on in my own community. I know that over 70% of the workers at our local Swift & Co packing plant are Hispanic. I know that the starting pay is $10 per hour, plus benefits after 30 days (unless, of course, the advertisements in the paper are all lies). I also know that most of the workers at the plant work overtime hours, because they can't keep all 3 shifts running at full capacity. I know that a company cannot discriminate against people because of their race - therefore, Swift & Co is NOT paying Hispanic workers less than non-Hispanics. I also know that there is nobody on this forum who could say whether Hispanics are documented or undocumented workers (I won't use the racially inflammatory language of "illegals" that most of you use).

2. I've never claimed that it is the "country as a whole". What it does PROVE, however, is that there are good paying jobs ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. It is a LIE to say that there are no jobs available. The truth would be, "there are no jobs I WANT TO WORK AT that are available".

3. Swift & Co would NOT hire bus companies to bring Hispanics (any who are willing to work) to this city to work at their packing plant IF there were enough locals to do the jobs. That would cut into their profit margin. Alas, there are NOT enough locals to do the jobs. That is why the Hispanics are being hired - and, in some cases, actually bussed in from southern Texas. That is NOT destroying the economy, but adding to it. Also, DO YOU THINK THE HISPANICS DON'T HAVE "SSI" & "FICA" WITH-HELD FROM EVERY PAYCHECK? You're kidding yourself!

4. I never said "a good share of illegal immigrants"... However, virtually EVERY packing plant in the country is desperate for good workers. They're hiring any and every one they can. You yourself can go start working for well over double miminum wage. It's just that you don't want to.
