According to the ICE annual report of 2006; Jefferson's stats are quite close indeed. No sense arguing who is correct on a couple of percentage points. As far as his points go, the first paragraph is correct. Immigration Is a unique problem to the United States if looked at from legal and illegal stand points.
Point 1). We can never hope to solve any problem until we admit that a problem exists and a proper answer is needed.
Point 2). While the stats are good; I think the actual problem is that we've not yet approached the second part of the problem from the second part of Point 1.
Point 3). I think you might be a little strong here with the use of the words "force" and "annex". Wouldn't this cause more of a problem according to your Point 4?
Point 4). This is entirely correct. I believe this point here is why a majority of us are here in America already.
Point 5). By building this fence, whom would pay for it and man it? What would their responsibilities actually be?
Point 6). When you say illegal parents do you mean one or both of the parents? The reason I ask this is that I believe many problems are also created by "marriages of convenience". -marraiges to obtain citizenship and such. However; Americans also are a part of this problem. One good look at our Navy supports this. How many of our active- duty and retired personnel have married a person not of American citizenship. Can we decree that this is illegal? No. Can we restrict sexual activity between consenting adults? Again; no.
Point 7). I agree with this statement until you mentioned the words "corrupt"and "force" Corrupt by whose standards? America? Mexico is a sovereign nation that has it's own laws. Whether we like it or not, we cannot dictate or enforce American law within Mexican borders anymore than any other country. We can, however; choose or choose not to deal with countries whom have differing governing philosophies than ours.
Point 8. I totally agree here. No matter what you and I agree or disagree on, Jefferson: I respect the fact that you are at least involved in a focus group concerning this issue. How about the rest of you out there? Are you just sitting around waiting for someone else to solve your problems for you? I believe that what Jefferson and his focus group are doing here could be best termed as "brainstorming" a solution. The rest of America should also realize that until we are willing to work at a solution; no solution is possible.
Point 9). Again; I totally agree. People, we elected these politicians into office- it is time that they realize that they are supposed to be the voice of the people. They must live up to what we elected them to do for us. Thank you much, jefferson, for at least making effort here. Okay, let's hear from the rest of you.
