I miss all the regional accents from Britain. | I first thought New York was 'New Ya-ouk.' A hard part of english for Japanese or Koreans are one syllable works like 'york.' We will want to stretch it to two via 'yo-rk' with it sometimes sounding like "yo-rk'a".
At least the english in Queens was not as mangled as it is in the Bronx or Brooklyn.
As for Zee or Zed, I was forced into accepting the Zee way. My American teachers were very ignorant about Zed. I was not rebellious enough in school to start a fight about the proper pronounciation of Z.

My daughter's first day in an American school, aged 9, she asked the teacher for a rubber, or an eraser in American parlance.
The teacher was quite taken aback.
I find most Americans don't have much knowledge of what happens outside their country. Often I am mistaken for an Australian although the accent is very different.

In my first Japanese-English dictionary (a 1950 something edition as gift from my grandparents), a rubber was covering slipped over a shoe to prevent the shoe from getting wet. I did not realize it was also slang for a condom. I though, why would I want to protect my shoe when during sex? I quickly bought a new dictionary....

Oh, and they never take vacation.. they "go on holiday."
Bloody Hell....

Bloody Hell.... | In Britain the most popular brand of condom is called Durex, and the word Durex is synonymous with condoms.
In Australia Durex is a brand of adhesive tape, like Scotch tape in America.
This has caused much confusion to Australians visiting Britain, and vice versa. The problem is that Scotch tape leaks.
Similarly, there is a dance, mostly in the southern states I believe, called the shag. I knew a girl from Atlanta who lived in London for a while.
One Friday evening her boyfriend arrived to take her out and asked what she wanted to do. She told him she felt like shagging all night.
For a short while he thought all his Christmases had arrived at once!

Puh-leese. I belong to a chat board where about half the members are British.
They are constantly asking Americans to explain words, phrases or customs.
The ignorance goes both ways and it is ridiculous for anyone to pretend otherwise.

Have you ever lived outside America?

No. But you are the only Brit that I encounter regularly online who has ever lived outside of Britain.
And I know plenty of Americans who have lived outside of America.
Would you like to present some statistics that prove that a higher number of British than Americans have ever lived abroad? Or would you like to admit that you just spouting ethnocentric BS?

You never know what might need sealing up when you do the shag too agressively.
