I am also talking about Mexican immigrants. As you may have noticed, the two links I provided talk primarily about Mexico. Here are some quotes from those links:

If we put more resources into allowing immigrants to come safely and legally, we could cut down the demand of illegal immigration and have a better moral argument to tighten the border.

Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade

Well, again it is the immigration cap that is preventing people from coming here legally. It isn't so much a matter of "putting more resources into allowing immigrants to come legally"; all we'd have to do is raise the immigration cap. But raising the immigration cap can cause other problems.

Take a look at my post earlier in this thread. You can see how Bush's immigration plan compares to one I have suggested.

To summarize, both my plan and Bush plan are, I think, attempts to allow immigrants into the country without allowing them to abuse government programs like welfare. So neither plan gives immigrants real citizenship like increasing the immigration cap would. The difference between our plans is that Bush's plan allows would-be immigrants to temporarily work and live in the US while the plan I suggested allows anyone into the country for as long as they want whether they are working or not.

I would add that English is a language that must be learned FIRST; before entering the country.

I don't agree with that, but I think it should be a requirment for citizenship.

I think we should be letting people in with desirable skill set, hold off on the taxi drivers, landscapers and store clerks for a while.

Shouldn't we have some say in who gets let in?

On a side note...

My sons have recently befriended a 10-year old Hispanic boy who hangs out at the store where they work for the summer.

The kid's dad is still in Guatamala, and his mom is in jail - because she's an "illegal". Kid lives with his uncle, who gives him $10 per day and expects him to take care of himself.

My sons have given him motorcycle rides, brought him over to our house to hang out, taken him on a boat ride, etc.

Just about the nicest kid in the world - and extremely smart. Unfortunately, the future doesn't look very rosey for him.

It's a weird world we live in.

I work with two kids roughly my age who immgrated from Cape Verde. They both moved to a rough town, Brockton. One of them never made it through highschool. The other got A's through highschool, played Division 1 soccer for a year, and received scholarship letters from the likes of Harvard. I grew up in a Boston suburb just some 20 minutes away from them, went to private school my whole life, and did well. We all work at the same place for different reasons. The one who dropped out of highschool works two jobs but I'm not sure what his direction in life is. The one who had enormous college opportunities stopped going to school because he is a father, with a one and half year old son, and needs to work more now than go to school. He says he should go back to school soon because he will be less motivated to go later. Me? I am a college kid...making money to pay for what college kids do.

It is a weird world.
But it don't take much to get me by
So just booze me up and get me high

One thing that I don't like about the Democratic Party is that they're too focused on punishing businesses for employing illegals. Its true that there needs to be in place policies which prevent employing of illegals; but they're missing a major factor. I don't know how effective it would be when about half of the illegals are home-employed, by the average joe. Thus the group of Mexicans on the corner next to Home Depot. Although my facts in this case could be skewed so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

And also if this has already been said then disregard this post.

$10, 000 is the amount of the fine, I worked for a company in Calif that got hit with 20 illegals, they paid the $200,000 and went on, they acted as if it were nothing, I imagine they probably got it back in the form of a “tax break.”
