| I disagree with you idea on the punishment of econimic crimes."White collar" crimes are still crimes against people that involve monetary loss to some individuals or group of individuals.I'm sorry, but the country club setfor this group of criminals does not reform. Here in illinois; the former Governor, George Ryan was found guilty of various economic crimes. Jail the white collar criminal also is my viewoint. Infact; I don't believe in the "caste sytem of prisons. The jail for the officials at Enron should be the same one as the jail for the mope who may have robbed a liquor store or was arrested selling drugs. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Sorry if this is a repeat, I didn't have time to read over all of the posts, but; Actively hunting down people who left their country for refuge reasons is something North Korea does. But, I'm assuming we're talking about people who don't go through the legal procedures of moving? Well, in many countries you can seek asylum and it would be legal. But I'm sure they would have to present conclusive evidence that you feel unsafe in your own country. I know a good majority of Canadians are trying to get their government to provide for American conscientious objectors that sought refuge in Canada, and to recognize their status. And many Canadian citizens formed their own groups to provide for them. If these people are caught by US officials, they would be sent to jail. There have been quite a lot recently, obviously due to the Iraq war. I don't think the US should actively pursue these people in another country. I believe soldiers have that right and duty to conscientiously object if their orders are illegal. And it doesn't matter if you think the Iraq war is righteous, it's still in more than one way illegal and illegitimate. | Conscienceyious Objector status I will not; and have not claimed to know the proper procedudes and/or methods for an idividual serving in our armed forces to proclaim himself as such. I do know, however; that without this classification an individual who flees to another country will be deemed AWOL and possibly a deserter. which has dire consequences for that individual. If somebody can clear up the discrepancies; I would much appreciate it. My next point to your post is: Who decides whether war is illegal or not? This is another murky area. The President- like it or not- has certain authority granted to him under the War Powers Act to authorize and order military strikes and other such action up to and including the use of nuclear weapons. This is something that has never been fully explained. Again- anybody who can explain this? | |||||||||||||||||||||
