The tragedy about Canada is that they could have had French cuisine, British culture, and American (U.S.) technology. Instead, they have British cuisine, American culture, and French technology!

But I feel sorry for the Canadians with such arrogant neighbors like us.

The U.S. and Canada do have at least one thing in common: both countries have backward countries on their southern borders!

It does bring light to the fact that if we helped mexico and latin America to improve their homefront that they wouldn't be coming here. It isn't that America is so great, Canadians are obviously not rushing the border, but the fact that they have it so bad.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Absolutely. And the best way to help them is to allow their farmers to export to the U.S. Central America is lucky that the money-wallowing lobbyists did not manage to stop CAFTA from being passed. If we could get something like this for Africa, it would help them more than any debt-relief scheme. I have a South African friend who admires America as a nation, but she was doing research for her economics class and was absolutely disgusted with all the subsidies our government gives our cotton industry. Talk about injustice.

I wouldn't expect CAFTA to help Central America very much, or at all. In fact, I'm quite sure it will only make their situation worse.

Look at what NAFTA has done to Mexico, you'll see maquiladoras all over the borderlands and ghettos within walking distance. In the rowdy areas (areas where workers often try to organize), there have been cases in which the maquiladoras were being guarded by men in uniform with fully automatic weapons -- often paid for by the U.S. I might add.

Over 60% of small Mexican enterprises went out of business after NAFTA went into effect, you call that progress? Out of the 1200 government owned businesses, there's now less than 200, just reapin' the profits. Public services like water, electricity, education, and environmental services become privatized and suddenly fathers are running away to America for work while mothers send their children off to work in sweatshops because in struggling to pay for water and electricty, they had to take their kids out of school.

While Mexico is the 8th largest exporter in the world, it's the 54th in human development. Hands are shaken, backs are slapped, cigars are lit, and families are trying to make a living off of slave wages.

The only thing that makes free trade 'free' is the expanded rights of foreign investors without the burden of expensive domestic labor, environmental regulations, etc.

CAFTA won't help Central America, there is simply no doubt about it.
\"Are we justified in using articles, no matter how convenient it may be for us to use them, that we know were produced in conditions which bored and even stultified the human beings who had to make them?\"

Oh Americans, why must you be so cruel?
Every time an American makes fun of Canadians for no reason, God kills a baby bald eagle. That is absolute, scientific fact.

The French are actually the world frontrunners on antibiotic development, and they have a leg up on cloning. I'm not being sarcastic this time. Dude, have you ever eaten in Montreal? They have some of the best food in the continent. Mmm... crepes....

I resent the American culture jab too. For starters, Canada is more polite. Plus, we have no army, no navy, legalized gay marriage, decriminalized marajuana, and cheap medicine. Canada is kind of like America from the mirror universe. It even has a goatee that you can see from space.

Who has no Army or Navy? If you are refering to Canada you are full of shit, I have sailed with the candian navy, and served with elements of the Canadian Army!
