Question Defending the truth?
Greetings,
The word truth has different meaning to different people. Truth in politics? Politics equal power, power equals pride and a closed mind. I am for the politics of seventeen seventy six! Before professional politicians. I have seen numerous government officials doublespeak. I have lost faith in the political process...yet I hope for a day when the people use there God given ability to govern themselves as a true majority.

Is my hope in vain? I want my America back, the seventeen seventy six one not the two thousand and seven one ,where God has been taken out of the pledge of allegiance. If we the people can screw up our foundations of freedoms in two hundred and thirty one years, how do we take back what our founding fathers died for? pljames

That's a good question for pljames, Rod.

Thing is, agree or disagree with the "politicians" as pljames seems to think, I highly doubt that many of the original founders of this nation would be so dismal as he is.

Get a vision, pljames! And do what you can to get others to see it and together work toward it.

The 100th Monkey

A story about social change.
By Ken Keyes Jr.
The Japanese monkey, Macaca Fuscata, had been observed in the wild for a period of over 30 years.
In 1952, on the island of Koshima, scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes dropped in the sand. The monkey liked the taste of the raw sweet potatoes, but they found the dirt unpleasant.
An 18-month-old female named Imo found she could solve the problem by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught this trick to her mother. Her playmates also learned this new way and they taught their mothers too.
This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by various monkeys before the eyes of the scientists. Between 1952 and 1958 all the young monkeys learned to wash the sandy sweet potatoes to make them more palatable. Only the adults who imitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes.
Then something startling took place. In the autumn of 1958, a certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes -- the exact number is not known. Let us suppose that when the sun rose one morning there were 99 monkeys on Koshima Island who had learned to wash their sweet potatoes. Let's further suppose that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash potatoes.
THEN IT HAPPENED!
By that evening almost everyone in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them. The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough!
But notice: A most surprising thing observed by these scientists was that the habit of washing sweet potatoes then jumped over the sea...Colonies of monkeys on other islands and the mainland troop of monkeys at Takasakiyama began washing their sweet potatoes.
Thus, when a certain critical number achieves an awareness, this new awareness may be communicated from mind to mind.
Although the exact number may vary, this Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon means that when only a limited number of people know of a new way, it may remain the conscious property of these people.
But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes-in to a new awareness, a field is strengthened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone!
From the book "The Hundredth Monkey" by Ken Keyes, Jr.

It's like the"free hugs" guy!

So look again at our nation in 2007 and look with faith and love for who we are and where we are and where we go is up to each one of us!

where have you been living?

the American pledge of allegiance hasn't been changed.

by the way ... the "founding fathers" did not PUT God into the Pledge of Allegiance. It wasn't written until the nineteenth century - and the word "God" wasn't added INTO the pledge until 1954. The founding fathers had nothing to do with any of it.

Bigotry is a social disease.

Your concept may be sound, but one has to realize that the world is a very different place from what it was in 1776. How would you suggest we adapt the 1776 mentality to modern times?

I was just going to say "Hi" but I see everyone else is responding to your comments on 1776 America.

First of all, if we go back to the 1776 Pledge of Allegiance there wasn't one. It was first published in 1892. That's fine with me but I think most uber-patriots would scream bloody murder at the idea.

Then we have the fact that there was a Revolution against the British crown going on. Lots of shooting and burning and such.

Combine that with diphtheria & smallpox, no TV or air conditioning, Blacks were slaves and women virtually the property of their nearest male relative........ I think I'll just hang with the 21st century.

And by the way, Hi and welcome.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

That's what wrong with America today. Women need to realize that they are subserviant to men and quit bitching. Men are the stronger sex and must protect their women from harm. Women's role is to serve men and see to their sexual needs. Demanding equal rights is destroying the very fabric of this great nation.

Seeing all these responses, my answer to Dons question is...No! I am of a different generation and hoping that some of our wisdom and mistakes can be understood and made better for the next generation. I agree with the dismal part. My visions of grandeur have blocked my reality of today. But how can I of past generations(forty to be exact make a difference in todays politic scene)? Is there a book, article or even a blog that can renew my faith in todays political system for the majority and democracy of America?
