Howdy and Salutations

Joshua here, just looking for a place to talk politics. I end up voting mainly for Republicans but I'm not a Republican. One of my favorite politicians is a Democrat, Linda Chapa LaVia.

Case in point: I was so opposed to the Iraq War that in 2004, the first year I could vote, I refused to vote for Bush but refused to vote for Kerry because of his strong support for abortion. I did some research, found out about the Constitution Party (3rd party), voted for their candidate, Michael Peroutka, and consider the Constitution Party my party.

My views are a severely radical mish-mash of conservative and liberal. I'm very pro-life and am especially opposed to partial birth abortion (and Obama because of his support for it while an Illinois senator) but recognize exceptions for the life of the mother. I'm opposed to homosexual marriage and embryonic stem cell research, but oppose the Iraq War, support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, want universal health care one day, oppose free trade...

Anyway, I'm very capable of explaining why I feel so strongly on all these issues, and you're all going to find out soon I'm sure

Also as a side note, this site misspells the word "registration" on the main page as the link to register, might want to fix that.

As you should be. Homosexual marriage, embryonic stem cell research, and the war in Iraq are closely intertwined.

Indeed, after all, all the phrases share the letter "a". They are commonly linked together by Conservatives as Conservative issues, which I disagree with. I prefer that people actually think through the issues for themselves rather than mindlessly voting "Liberal" or "Conservative".

Joshua, do I gather that you might vote for Ralph Nader?

I don't know much about Nader, but I doubt it. I'll probably end up voting for whoever the Constitution Party picks as their candidate, but I'll be sure to carefully examine all candidates to see which is the best. I definitely won't vote for Obama, I'm no fan of Hillary although I like her (or anyone) better than Obama, and I'm not too crazy about McCain.

Candidates I liked so far for the Primaries were Keyes and Huckabee, and after looking at Ron Paul recently I've been starting to think he might not be too bad either.

I guess when November comes, no matter who the two nominees are between Obama/Clinton and McCain, probably none of them will get my vote. So it is like a lose-lose proposition even if I voted for Nader or some other candidate not mentioned.

Well, I don't believe in supporting the lesser of 2 evils, or doing evil that good may come of it, so I'll probably do the same and support neither party's candidate. Still, I figure by voting for a third party candidate it can do some good since it helps break the 2 party system as the 3rd party gets more well known, plus the third party gradually gets balloting in more and more states.

I think the last time I voted, I didn't vote for Bush nor Kerry. In checking CNN.Com, Nader was not on the Presidential election's California ballot in 2004. He was on the ballot in some other states. I may not have voted for president at all in 2004.

BTW, welcome to DTT.
