I am working on picturing in my mind E.C. Right across from the play ground of the school there is where my aunt and uncle live.

First time I was ever in Jerome was 1978. Very odd experience. I had lived in the San Bernardino mountains and a pretty protected life on a whole. I can imagine on the news there.

We lived in Hagerman for over seventeen years. Worked throughout the state contracting.

That's awesome. Yeah, the Hagerman area is really pretty as well. I spent a lot of time down on the river in the canyon. I loved it down there, and miss it a lot.

I do miss many friends and family I have there. Our children moved here though and married so I would miss them and the grandbabies even more if we were in Idaho.

Did you ever get to Blue Heart?

No, can't say that I ever did make it to Blue Heart. Whereabouts is that?

If you started out across from the falls it is just about a mile up river past the rocky areas on the canyon wall side. About 500' past that little rock outcrop in the middle of the river. Most boaters unless they have been there a long time or have a smaller boat don't go that far. They lose a lot of props through there. Either that or they go in from the Banberry side of the river.

Instead of the water coming out the canyon wall it comes up under water level. The water comes up very close in two streams, it has white sand and creates the formation of a heart that is blue in appearance. Icey cold but a great place to swim when it is very hot. Those funny little snails live there.

If you get back there in the summer and know a friend w/ a boat you can also float the island. If you stood at Sportmans Resort and look across the river to see the water falls. That largest one in the center flows both ways behind the island. You can take a boat up the stream behind the island on the NW side. Walk under the bridge with intertubes, go three hundred feet or so and you be in water running the opposite direction. Have your boat buddy pick you up at the other end of the island (they can be fishing while you take the scenic route) or paddle across to get back to the HWY at Sportsmans or down by the bridge on 30. Nice trip. If you get there in the right season you'll see the Carp spawning. The females get up to 4'. Hugh fish and fascinating to watch.

Rod, thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind. I've got a big alumicraft cargo canoe I used to take all over different stretches of the river in the canyon. Most people don't know it, but there's awesome deer hunting down there in many spots, so I used to use my canoe for deer hunting quite a bit.

One of my favorite floats was starting at Scotts Pond (don't know if you know where that is) and taking out at Niagra Springs.

The canoe would work great to get to Blue Heart or down river to the island backside. Not sure about the hunting on that end.

I don't think there is any up on that end either. Not that it matters to me first person. I'm no longer a resident of Idaho, and I'll be damned if I'll pay the non-resident fees to hunt there. However, my oldest boy is of hunting age, so I might take him on a hunt in the canyon sometime soon. The best hunting spots I know are right near the Perrine Bridge, if you can believe that. I shot an absolute monster of a buck up under the canyon rim there in 2002.

One of the best canoe trips I had on the river is when a couple of friends and I put in at Centenial Park and rowed/paddled all the way up to the base of Shoshone Falls. We had to portage around Pillar Falls, of course.
