Can you explain what handfasting is Ali hon?

I am so lit by your use of the word "handfasting"...
I love that and never did hear it before!

I did have an internet relationship that turned very very disastrous and that is why I ask.

And yet it still seems to me that if two people really want to get to know each other and have the same goals for a relationship and also are true to who they really are, by what they write, they stand a very good chance of building a very real and strong foundation for the emphasis on their souls.

I am gonna maybe do a google now on handfasting, that is an awesome term!

Then I can maybe someday know being handfasted!

You'll have an interesting search, as handfasting means different things to different practices.

Mainly though, handfasting is a pagan form of marriage. The ceremony for the two to join, is a religous and spiritual joining of two souls into one. For some neo-pagan faiths, the handfasting is of a certain period of time...Usually a year long relationship, of which after this time, both parties may or may not remain together. But during that period, for all intents and purposes, they are husband and wife. After the year is up, they then may reconsider and if both parties are consenting, then their marriage is anulled.

In our situation though, and our particular beliefs, the handfasting was of a permenant standing. A 'till death do you part' ceremony of which we not only blended two persons into one, but joined also spiritually and mentally for all eternity. In not only this lifetime, but in future lives as well. His breath is my breath, as my breath is his to do as he wills.

Also, as I mentioned, the handfasting ceremony we did have, is legally binding the same as a civil or church marriage in the area it was performed...Which is totally lost on Gary there...He thinks that anyone claiming 'hand fasting' is just claiming to be playing house.

As are a large number of non-Pagans such as Gary, they don't understand that the same meanings they put into a church ceremony are applied and observed with those of a non-Christian marriage ceremony.

And Gary is determined to do with this introduction what he does to any thread I participate in...highjack it and get it all about him or deleted...So I'll stop while I'm ahead and put the bugger on ignore as soon as I find the ignore option here....

I cannot now remember the word, but will try to find it online...the word for woman in the Genesis account meant breath!

That is what I would want to be to a man. And I must say for other reasons that to me love and breathing are of such a strong connection.

Yes, I looked at the handfasting stuff at Wikipedia and like the picture there of the hands tied : tying the knot!

I think that if I ever would know the kind of love that could be made that complete, I would certainly want to borrow certain ritual portions of the handfasting and the meanings.
