Welcome PC.. i used to debate in highschool as well. In fact my team won the Pakistani Nationals in Parliamentary Style debating. I didn't speak at that time though.. was merely a resource. Actually my little brother won it as well as did my younger cousin with her team. we are a bunch of real talkers in my family

It's way fun, and you really wind up meeting the smartest and coolest kids around.

Oh definitely, I LOVE debate. I'm so psyched for districts this weekend because I want to help our A spot get to nationals.

Well good luck to you on that. are you well versed in the use to dirty tricks? Because when you have a skewed topic that is sometimes your only saving grace.

Insertion of a pre-agreed fictional "study" or survey. make up a name like the "Lippsburg Study", a date and basic reasearch methods. It works. Even if it doesn't convince anybody ( it doesn't ahve to, but it is extremely effective in rattling the opposition) Sometimes making the opposition think they have holes in their knowledge is enough to win you a debate.

Turn the debate into a definitional one. This is easier when you are the opposition. It is important the the understanding of the topic leans towards your stance. Occasionally the debate never gets past the definition, but it is also a good place to make fun of the opposing team.

Harrassment by raising points of information. Guage the rhythm of the speaker and voice yourself when you think it will rattle him/her the most.

i know it sounds like a lot of dirty tricks, but trust me, they are VIGOROUSLY employed by all international debaters. And the fact is that when a debate is a competition, you are there to WIN it.

Oh and lastly, plant some goodlookin girls and boys in the audience to flirt with the opposition while debating. I used to be one of those planted, and i've thrown more than a few girls off their rhythm.. hee hee hee

I like your methods. But as for the last part, I tend to wear tight and/or low-cut shirts just for that purpose. And a skirt with a nice long slit. It's worked for me multiple times And judges like it too.

hahahahaha.. you clever little lady you.

However i would warn you that if you are speaking then it doesn't always have as much of an effect. The opposition will consider you an opponent and look past your dazzling appearance. However a member of the AUDIENCE ( whose allegiance cannot be gauged immediately) is more likely to put them off their stride.

Ha you have a point. Except when they're up giving a speech and I JUST SO HAPPEN to need to bend down to get some evidence..
