Isn't Driving a Lifestye Too?
I hope so cos I don't know where to post this.

My car has the check engine light coming on. I have only had the car for three weeks.

Could it be coming on due to all the moisture, cos there was some ice and snow stuck underneath it?

Could the need for a serpentine belt make the check engine light come on?

It is a Hyundai Elantra 2002.

Thanks to any advisors here.

OD, it is not something to be messed with. Take it into the dealer to have it checked out.

Thank you...

But could it be minor or really nothing?

However the degree, I'd take it in if I were you. Whenever I have that come on, I take it in to the dealer. Even if it is says "change oil", I do it. A serpentine belt is also not be messed with, too.

Be sure you mention to the service writer when you bought your car. I think you should not have to pay a penny for it. And if you are made to do it, you better take it up with the people who sold you the car.

That's one of the things when you buy a pre-owned auto, OD. I had a pre-owned car many years ago. The first two weeks I had it, it spent more time in the shop than it did in my garage. It was irritating, needless to say.

I don't know why the dealers (if that is where you bought your car) would ever fine tune any car, pre-owned or not?

Yes, it could be. I had a van that the light came on every time the humidity and temperature conditions were just right. It was just moisture condensation in the fuel. Not a good thing but not critical either.

But it is not something to take a chance with in the middle of winter. You don't want to get stranded somewhere.

Get it checked out.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

Thank you both.

I am going to have to wait though if it costs any money right now. So...I checked out a search online and found out that it can also be that the gas cap is not on tight. Once I adjust that, it can take a few days for the light to go off.

So I surely do hope it is that.

Girlies are not usually very good with cars you need a man in your life to take care of these things.

Now you are getting nasty. Will you stop with this girlies stuff!? You read too many Playboy mags. And my sister knows more about cars than you ever will.

Is that an observation, a suggestion, or an offer?
