| Jarhead Hi everyone I am new to the fourm. Has anyone seen/heard about the movie Jarhead? Plot (source http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418763/plotsummary) Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom... Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit. Any thoughts? -Rachel | |||||||||||||||||||||

| I want to see it, but have not yet had the chance. I do know this, don't bother seeing it if you are expecting action. It's not that kind of movie. Fight the good fight, and die with the enemy's heart in your hand. http://www.armysailor.com http://www.tadpolenet.com/techblog ------------------------------------ Check out my latest addition to the blogosphere Quixotic Journey | |||||||||||||||||||||

At one point in the movie, the media was going to interview some of the troops. This was the point in the movie that bothered me because one of the troops mentioned free-speech while the staff seargent said, "you no longer have your rights". The staff seargent told the troops that they are to say to the media that they enjoy what they are doing over in Iraq, believe in what they are doing, and support this Adminsitration. It just really bothered me because I can see what type of message they were sending to the viewers of this film. In many parts of the film, it looked like they were trying to scare people into not enlisting in the US military. Maybe that was just intended for comedy use..I hope so.. Overall, the movie had a good storyline and I would see it again. I just had to mention the parts that bugged me during the film. | ||
