Anyone who watched his program the day before, or anyone who saw this video could easily tell that he was trying to squirrel his way out of apologizing or at least correcting himself for making a blatant historical error in order to justify his positions on Abu Gharib and Haditha. That little incident and the fact that Fox News tried to cover up his lies by doctoring the transcript to make it look like he was talking about Normandy, only makes things worse for Bill-O and his credibility (Or lack thereof.).

He lied about Malmedy on a Tuesday and tried to lie about what he said the very next day, Bill-O seems to severely underestimate the memory capacity of his viewers.

You can spin it any way you like. This is the direct quote that Olbermann used on the video earlier in this thread.

" In the heat of the debate with Geneal Clark my statement wasn't clear enough, Mr. Caldwell. AFTER MALMADY, SOME GERMAN CAPTIVES WERE EXECUTED BY AMERICAN TROOPS."

Doesn't get much clearer than that. Speaking of which, O'Reilly was pretty calm and collected when he said this, he wasn't in the heat of debate or anything like that. He wasn't in a fit of rage like he was when he went into a debate with Geraldo over immigration a few months ago. He lied then tried to cover up his lie with another lie.

Even if he was telling the truth (which he wasn't, let's try not to give a sensationalist the title of journalist) he completely ignored the fact that far more innocent Americans were killed by the S.S. in Malmedy. He can't possibly have missed that little tidbit. He's trying to cover his missteps.

I've seen that one, and I hate them both, but Geraldo is right. I agree 100% that background checks are necessary and should be more widespread, but O'Reilly is just making a cheap point out of an issue which applies more to drunk driving.
