Hah, I wonder if they should not have sold beer due to their muslim upbringing.

They were left speechless when their store was emptied. But they believed their words.

Muslims want crisps banned

Furious Muslims have heavily criticised Walkers crisps after it emerged that certain varieties of the manufacturer's products contain trace elements of alcohol.

Some crisp types use minute amounts of alcohol as a chemical agent to extract certain flavours.

The report in Asian newspaper Eastern Eye, highlights concerns raised by shopkeeper Besharat Rehman, who owns a halal supermarket in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Mr Rehman told the paper: "A customer informed us that Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli and Doritos Chilli Heat Wave are not on Walkers' alcohol-free list. Our suppliers were unaware of this.

"Even if it is a trace amount of alcohol, Walkers should make it clear on the packaging so that the customer can make an informed choice.

"I feel frustrated and angry. I have let my customers down simply because such a big company like Walkers is not sensitive to Muslim needs.

The manager and his employee were happy that it happened.

Upon overhearing that, the beer delivery person made a u-turn and walked out of the store without delivering the beer. And he also told other people about it, too. Such as those who worked for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, local dairy, and all of the other vendors you can think of.

They all came into the store within a matter of days, and picked up the items, taking it to their trucks, leaving the store completely empty. The owner/manager of store closed it down, as he had nothing to sell anymore.

Now who can tell me if this borders on discrimination?

I dont see that as discrimination at all.

Don't try to psycho-analyze.

You do know what that means, right?

I don't really know how you can quantify something like this. Hate-crimes? Sure. But discrimination? I'm not too sure about that.

I hear overt anti-Islam and anti-Arab slurs everyday, even in the professional setting. When I went to buy my last used car, I heard my rather unabashedly conservative car dealer's conversation on the phone with one of those (as he called them) 'towel-heads', and the moment he heard his accent he was talking trash to him and hung the phone up on him. At first I thought he was frustrated with an employee, but then again I've never heard compassionate conservative 'customer service' before either.

Whilst anti-semitic discrimination is largely covert and reserved to a minority of radicals and racists, anti-Islamic/Arab discrimination is largely overt and evident in the larger population. It just so happens that people like car dealers talk trash and discriminate while gun-toting Nazis in the woods happen to burn crosses and trash temples. You can't always quantify the level of discrimination with the numbers of overt hate-crimes.

Thank you, Katz. You ably and accurately articulate the nature of anti-Islamic/Arab feeling.

But, in addition to that, your personal anecdote puts to bed the lie that anti-Islamic/Arab discrimination by businesses is something that does not exist in America.

I have never personally witnessed such discrimination but I hear the racist talk all the time.

And look how much mileage wacko Republican supporters have gotten out of the fact that Obama spent a couple of years in a Muslim school as a small child. The rational response to hearing that is "So?"

But the actual response to that fact by literally millions of Americans has been, "THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING! THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING!"

I say the store got what it deserved.

Not all Muslims prohibit alcohol. It depends on the tribe. They actually have wineries in Jordan, and, the white wine is actually pretty decent. The United Arab Emirates permits alcohol and I even had a few beers with a chap in Arab garb when I was in Dubai in December. Qatar is another Muslim country that permits alcohol. And yes, there is an actual liquor store just outside the gate of Victory Base Camp here in good ole' Iraq.
