Lesbian Educator Commits Suicide
Embattled University of California Chancellor Dies After Apparent Jump From Building
Sunday, June 25, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO — A University of California chancellor died Saturday in an apparent suicide jump from a 43-story apartment building on Saturday, authorities said.

Denice Dee Denton, 46, the chancellor of the Santa Cruz campus, apparently jumped from an undisclosed section of the Paramount luxury apartment building around 8 a.m. and landed on a parking garage, police and university officials said.

The Medical Examiner's office and a university spokesman confirmed her death, though the cause was still under investigation.

"Those of us who worked closely with Denice valued her intelligence, humor, and commitment to the ideals of diversity and higher education," UC Santa Cruz Campus Provost David S. Kliger said in a statement. "We are deeply saddened by her death."

Denton recently was criticized for demanding expensive remodeling to her campus home and for helping her partner secure a top-paying university position.

In March, she defended $600,000 worth of renovations to her campus home she demanded during contract negotiations before being hired in 2004.

Campus employees criticized the expenditures as lavish while the university raised fees and cut budgets.

An employee union in 2005 criticized the university's creation of a $192,000-a-year job for Gretchen Kalonji, Denton's longtime partner and a former professor of materials science at the University of Washington in Seattle.

University officials defended the hiring, saying Kalonji's experience would be an asset in her role as director of international strategy development.

Maybe they'll be copycats. We can only hope.

At times, you reveal what a heartless bastage you truly are...

I'm curious as to who you think the "we" is in your comment...
Or does it help you to sleep at night to imagine that there are others who are as cold and insensitive as you...

I guess my humor is kinda rough isn't it. The school bent over backwards to make this lesbian happy. They even gave her partner a job, I mean a really well paying job. She still aint happy. Maybe now the school can get a person to do her job and pay one salary instead of having to invent a job for their partner and proving that they are accommodating to the homosexual community. Talk about special rights. Do you think the school would do that for a hetero couple? I don't think so.

This woman lost her partner due to suicide, and now you hope that she commits suicide.
That isn't humor.

That's the type of crap that bigots try to pass off as humor as they joke about blacks dying or Jews dying.

Her back-story isn't pretty. I'll admit that.
But wishing her partner death at a time when she's probably grieving over this death?

That's just plain wrong.

And to think I actually thought you were "Christian" at one time.
Man. You're just insisting on proving me wrong on that one...

No, it's not the same as Blacks dying or Jews dying. It's ironically funny because she was wanting all this stuff and everyone bent over backwards to please her and then she commits suicide. Don't try to make this a civil rights issue. It's what it is and nothing more and nothing less.

You don't even believe in Christianity, so why would anyone with half a brain expect you to know what a Christian is?

Well, you're the perfect example of somebody who could answer that question...

But regardless, there is a difference inbetween BELIEVING in something and UNDERSTANDING the dogma of a religion.

Just because I don't believe in Christianity doesn't mean I don't have knowledge on the subject.

And out of curiousity, what do you think a Christian is?
Does a Christian behave the way you are behaving?
Would Christ approve of your actions?

I really don't see this as humorous. Because the title of your post is "Lesbian Educator Commits Suicide", and your conclusion is that you hope there will be copycats, it really gives the impression that you hope gay people will kill themselves. Maybe you don't really hope for that, but it is the impression that this line gives.

As for this woman killing herself, well who knows why she did it? House rennovations and a job for your loved one aren't the only things a person needs to avoid depression.
