O'Reilly Tactics
Just lie about something to make an illogical justification for something morally wrong, and when you're caught making crap up, instead of apologizing, try and make excuses.

Deconstruction of O'Reilly

I can't believe this bigot is still on the air.

How is he any different than a whole slew of other loud-mouthed talk-show people?

It's all about ratings. O'Reilly is getting attacked by Olberman because Olberman gets his ass kicked every night on ratings. You always attack the guy on top. Nothing more.

1) Did you see O'Reilly freak out over somebody mentioning Olberman's name on the air? Threatening to sic Fox security (and the law) on the person who had called in and JUST casually mentioned Olberman's name?
O'Reilly is just out there in la-la-land.

2) If he's no better than other "loud-mouthed talk-show people", shouldn't we be demanding better from ALL of them?

3) Predictably, alias whines about the person on top getting attacked, while making ABSOLUTELY NO COMMENT as to whether or not Olberman's observations were accurate...

Sure, if what you care about is ratings...like Bill O'Reilly...instead of caring about being an honest journalist. He's not a journalist at all. His show is about what Bill O'Reilly thinks. His closed-mind assumptions and opinions are only reinforced by the ease of harboring these assumptions and opionions. He is marketable because he can get heated and his arguments "sound" good, which is enough for the target population of Fox News. Everything about his closed-mind assumptions and opinions compounds easily into an attractive political personality (a.k.a the reason Bill O'Reilly is still on the air).

I remember the exact moment I stopped taking Bill O'Reilly and as a result Fox News seriously.

It was this past Holiday season on the Factor, Bill was complaining about the recent move by many corporations and businesses to use phrases like "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." I don't specificly remember his arguments, they are besides the point here. He had none other than Jerry Falwell and the president of the American Family Association (right-wing Christian organization) on the show, offering their side, but really all three of them were echoing each other. The essential point is that the holiday associated with this time in America is Christmas. It isn't bad or wrong to say Merry Christmas over Happy Holidays. O'Reilly crticized other news corporations of doing the same thing. Then he annouced the Factor was going to commercial break. There was then a little musical interlude with some nice seasonal graphics. The message said "Season's Greetings."

That is when I stopped taking Bill O'Reilly and Fox News seriously.

I think Bill has a point about Christmas. I can see where business caves to the politically correct on this issue.

Back to Olberman. To me, he is way more offensive the Bill. He is on the bottom and doing all he can to move up in ratings. He's a boob and his ratings prove it. People want some entertainment, not just some guy sitting behind a desk tossing paperballs at us. What a dork.

Have you seen O'Reilly's snafu on the subject?

And thus you have completely ignored Olberman's ACTUAL comments, and you do nothing but slur Olberman without actually pointing out any real fault of Olberman.

Typical...

It's just a matter of personal taste. You don't like O'Reilly and I like his show. I don't like Olberman or his show. What is there to discuss? That's why we have so many cable news channels. What a great country.

I really wonder whether you actually read people's posts sometimes. I know I'm not the only one. If that is all you have to say after what I said, then I'm pretty amazed. This instance was one of the most blatant displays of hypocrisy I have ever seen in my entire life. Ever. I'm not even kidding.

I mean, O'Reilly has the audacity to even extend his criticism to Fox News rivals for using other messages instead of "Merry Christmas", and then right in the middle of all his, Falwell, and the AFA president's talk about this, right in the middle of it, Fox News interludes to commercials with "Seasons Greetings".

I did not even know such a thing was possible.
