He says that the college crowd wishes they could be in the military but I disagree. If I wanted to be in the military, I could go join. I scored in the highest bracket on the ASVAB and am in good shape. I'm not afraid of the military, I just am not interested in it. Alias, when did you serve in the military?

While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?

It gets really inane when we get down to the point of saying "This is my opinion" without actually giving SUBSTANTIATION for the opinion, and debating the SUBSTANTIATION for the conclusions.

Or, like my daddy used to say, "Opinions are like noses. Everybody has one and they all smell."

It's foolish to call the protestors names because it does nothing to further a debate. If all you want to do is name-call, then so be it. Just be aware you have done nothing of any intellectual worth.

That's ridiculous.
Why would only the military "know the reasons we are at war"? That makes no sense.

The military doesn't decide when we do and do not go to war. That's Congress, elected by the people.

As usual, when you start back-peddling to just the "this is my opinion" stage, it's typically because you are saying something inane that you have nothing better to back up with than "this is my opinion"...

That statement of his is mind-boggling.
Recruiters GO TO COLLEGE CAMPUSES.
It's not the college students who are knocking on the door of the military bases. It's vice versa.

No wonder alias likes what this guy has to say. He says nothing based on reality but based on what is convenient for his beliefs and prejudices.

I did go to college, and I did join the military. My recruiter talked to me about an extra "bonus" if I got one of my engineering friends to join the program.
I told all my friends about the program and how it would help pay for college.
Not a single one took me up on it.

There is a reason that the military gave me a big signing bonus and paid me just for going to college for two full years. It's because the recruiters WANT the college students, and not vice versa.

Its his opinion, but graduation from military training isn't exactly a social forum. I know I wouldn't be happy if someone mixed politics in with my graduation, military or school. Maybe its an Army thing. The Marine Corps certainly avoided politics in their graduation when my brother graduated.

And now, it's even easier to join...

"The US military has stopped battalion commanders from dismissing new recruits for drug abuse, alcohol, poor fitness and pregnancy in an attempt to halt the rising attrition rate in an army under growing strain as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
An internal memo sent to senior commanders said the growing dropout rate was "a matter of great concern" in an army at war. It told officers: "We need your concerted effort to reverse the negative trend. By reducing attrition 1%, we can save up to 3,000 initial-term soldiers. That's 3,000 more soldiers in our formations." "

And more on how THEY are interested in US. (Not vice versa....)

"Last month it emerged that one recruiter gave advice on how to cheat a mandatory drug test to a potential would-be soldier who said he had a drug problem.

In another incident in Texas, a recruiter threatened a 20-year-old man with arrest if he did not turn up to an interview. As a result all military recruiters stopped work for one day to attend retraining classes on acceptable practices. "
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/...499164,00.html

And oh yeah. They are STILL trying to get more people to join...

"FORT JACKSON, S.C. — The Army has begun training the oldest recruits in its history, the result of a concerted effort to fill ranks depleted during the Iraq war.
In June, five months after it raised the enlistment age limit from 35 to just shy of 40, the Army raised it to just under 42.

To accommodate the older soldiers, the Army has lowered the minimum physical requirements needed to pass basic training.

The first group of older recruits is going through basic training here. So far, only five people 40 and older — and 324 age 35 and older — have enlisted, Army records show. "

I never served in the military and what does my serving or not in the military have to do with the message? I support the military in ways you never dreamed of pal so take you holier-than-thou attitude and shove it.

Why would anyone want to debate with some derelict standing in the street shouting and calling the president a murderer? I sure wouldn't. That man has more class in his foreskin than you and a few others here will ever have. that guy is a man. That guy is an American who loves his country and is willing to face the enemy and defend his home. Why would he want to waste his time "debating" with asswipes like a few around here? For cripes sake man, take a reality pill.

Um. Yeah...
Thanks for that meaningless observation...

Got any more pointless comments to make in your attempt to avoid responding to any semblance of what I ACTUALLy said?

Foreskin?
Seriously dude. You are the epitome of "latent homosexual".

And a real man uses his brain as well as his brawn.
This guy is already down one, although he presumably has the other...

Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.
Being in Iraq IS NOT about "defending our home".

WHEN will the Iraq war-mongers ADMIT THAT???

How about also ingoring using the "you ever been in the military service" as some kind of litmus test with having an opinon on the war. I agree with ignoring saying a lot things. Especially calling people stupid, ignorant, and dumb and questioning your education because you disagree with them. It seems to be a problem with a few posters around here. Public school education is not the summation of all knowledge.

So... do you have to be a veteran to have knowledge of politics and/or war?
