My GirlFriend recalls times while she was in school and they did not have "Drill" attacks they claimed they were real and they were accually getting bombed. Her and her friends were scared for their lives because they were getting bombed during the Cold War.

What time period are you people talking about?
We never had anything but fire drills when I was in school.
I do remember the "3 minute warning" of a possible nuclear attack from the late 70s. I was working about 100 yards outside the fence for Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.
I don't remember what the official drill was but I do remember our unofficial version:
NOTICE: In case of three minute warning!
1. Stand up from your seat.
2. Bend over and place your head between your thighs.
3. Kiss your ass goodbye!

Like 1961 and awhile longer... But we were never told to believe it was the real thing, only that it was preparation in case it ever would be th real thing. Just like when the Emergency Broadcasting System , this is only a test . . . OD

Maybe it was because I went to a rural Alabama school. Not exactly a primary target area. LOL
We had fire drills and were never told whether it was real or not. We actually had a fire once in the boiler room and we all assumed it was a drill until after we got outside and could see the smoke coming out a window.
That incident was actually kind of cool to us kids. We had this huge front lawn & playground and it was a beautiful fall day. It was shortly after lunch and we all just hung out on the playground until time to go home. (about 800 students, grades 1 thru 12)
