Did the TSA think that perhaps the PB&J sandwich was homemade, and in a plastic bag, for which they thought it was not permitted onboard?

So if I have a 4 oz. bottle of cologne, I have to put that in checked baggage instead of a carry-on, where only 3 ozs. or smaller are allowed, and only in small plastic bags.

So what about my medications? I read that a few times, and it can get confusing.
I agree, it can be confusing. That's why calling the airport ahead of time and asking if something is specifically banned makes it worthwhile.

Yes, it was home-made...And since there wouldn't have been a way to remove the peanutbutter alone, (which isn't allowed through checkpoints if you read the link I provided), so the whole thing was confiscated.

As to medications? There are certain meds not allowed, but generally most medications aren't removed from you if they're of an emergency nature (meds for allergic reaction or heart/diabetic meds), or you have a number from your doctor (along with a number to talk to the doctor directly), that gives you medical permission to carry it on the plane. And if you're not sure, call the airport with any concerns/questions. They want you to, as it saves both you, other fliers, and themselves time in the check points.

The simple rule is, if you don't need it during the flight, put it in the baggage deemed for the cargo hold.

I guess after I take my medications for the day, I would prior to going to the airport.

That's what I had to do. I took my meds before turning my bags in, just keeping out the nitro pills that I have to carry on me at all times as well as one dose of my other meds that I had to take halfway through the flight plan. But to carry those with me, I had a letter from my doctor as well as I had to carry my medical records with me so security could check it out. Plus the crew on the plane were told of it by security so there wouldn't be any trouble on the plane when/if I had to access my meds.

Basically, the doctor had to give me a letter giving me medical permission to fly in the first place. Oh joy.

Oh boy. *whimper*

Ali, do you carry any medications in seven-day pill boxes? That's what I do. I just spoke to the airlines, and they suggested that I have my pill bottles with me when I go through security. And I have my medical information on my medical ID chain and on a sheet of paper provided by the people who supplied me the medical ID chain.

Gosh, I just really wonder why didn't the no-gooders like those 09/11 terrorists would do their stuff on another planet!?

I tried that once...But since I have a household with cats and dogs...It turned out it wasn't a good idea. The cat would get up on the counters where I put the packs, knock them off, and the dogs would see it as a new chew toy....Luckily I was able to confiscate before the dogs chewed through.

The cats will avoid the bottles for some reason, as do the dogs. But the packs seem to be irresistable for them. ROTFLMAOL!!!

I should wear medical ID, but...I dunno. Just something I should do but don't. And doesn't do much good for us to call the airport till we do need to fly anywhere...As the regulations are static and change depending on what occures in the meantime. I know when we flew last year, unless they were needed inflight, you couldn't carry your meds on you without a doctor's note. And only the gods know what changes there will be when/if we need to fly in the future. ROTFLMAOL!!!

Yeah, that could change right up to the very last minute before one arrives at the airport. Sheesh!!

Sounds like I will just pack my medicine away in my checked baggage.

Meanwhile, take a look at the site I posted, from the TSA. Uh, happy reading. *SIGH*

Thanks. It doesn't say though when it was last updated...I know that when we sent my mother-in-law back last summer, they banned all scissors. She was going to do some quilting while inflight, and they had her move her scissors to the luggage going into cargo.

Also, that list doesn't include the parts about banns on certain drink bottles or food items either, such as the peanutbutter/maple syrup bann that is listed on the ban lists inside the airports themselves. Such as what this article was about or the one I posted on the TSA's reason for those particular bans.

Seems the one you provided may not have been updated recently? It didn't even cover the earlier responses of yours that you were aware of concerning packaged food being ok?

Scratch that...found that it was updated in March...Seems they forgot to cover a few things eh?

No crazier then for my in-laws to ship us a bottle of Canadian syrup or Kraft peanut butter for hubby (he doesn't like the US version, says Canadian is best), they have to apply for an export licence. So the in-laws when they came down last summer, smuggled him a couple of jars through the border cause they couldn't afford the license to just mail it.

I couldn't believe they were willing to risk jail time just to bring my hubby a jar of peanutbutter. ROTFLMAOL!!! I would have told him do without personally.

Pure maple syrup (or was it PB), and not even from the state of Vermont? Man, they were that close to eating meals in a place where they don't want to be. LOL
