U.S. Army To Test Super Gun

The U.S. Army plans to test next month a SUPER GUN from a company appropriately called Metal Storm that can shoot 240,000 bullets per minute. The gun has no moving parts. Among its many tricks, the gun can actually shoot down enemy mortar fire.

So does it have a trailer hitch on the back to tow the tractor trailer full of ammo it would require to shoot for more than a couple minutes?

a 3 second burst would be 12,000 rounds

Don't believe it. The barrels shown on that thing are MK19 grenade launcher barrels, and there is no way a weapon could have such a high cyclic rate without moving parts (even a projectile counts) and without being water cooled. It is ridiculous. Why would you want to fire so many rounds? Modern warfare is about Fire Control, and precision not just filling the air with lead until something dies. Plus ince those are grenade lauching barrels in that picture, we'd be talking 12,000 grenades or extremely large projectiles. This thing would churn out mountains of metal... Just not realistic. Sorry to disapoint.

I could be wrong... But this IS what I do for a living...
Fight the good fight, and die with the enemy's heart in your hand.

Nah you are definitely right. 4000 bullets per second for each barrel...Heat is definitely a major factor. Shouldn't of been Dugg on Digg.
