As a new pupil here to the site I will walk steady on this conversation...

First I will preface my position on the '08 election as undecided. I have been a registered Republican from 1988, however I have not voted straight Republican ever and not in every presidential election. I always tend to vote on issues that I feel strongest about. (Bush 88, Clinton 92, Dole 96, Gore 00, Kerry 04, ? 0

When I first heard McCain say that we would be in Iraq 100 years I cringed and felt it was that statement that would lose the race for him, but as I approached the topic with Common Sense I realized he was discussing our National Presence in the Region for 100 years. Like our presence in

Germany, Turkey, Korea.

Now there is an argument that we should not be in those nations and we should withdrawl and begin practicing some isolationism. I understand this argument I also understand that we should not expell all of our dollars overseas, and then borrow more dollars form China and Japan to support more failed operations. I was against the war from the get go, I knew it would happen I knew the outcome would be as it is, I was there in 90-91. I was in favor of Afghanastan invasion and control of the region, which we could have managed very easily. However, do any of you realize the strategic importance of this area and why our national intrest needs to be able to run operations there. I feel the Biden & Brownback plan is the best solution in helping establishing a favorable government in that region. There are alot of buzz words thrown around about this situation and the truth is we have a major intrest to be there and we should see this through, but we need to have a better plan. The President failed in his duty as Commander in Chief 1st by appointing Rumsfeld then by hanging onto him way too long. We are making more progress in Iraq today than we have in the previous 4 years. I hate to admit it but we do need to stay the course and maintain our presence in Iraq for the future. Again strictly my opinion.

When asked on January 11th if the U.S. presence in Iraq would continue for another ten years, President Bush responded "It could easily be that. Absolutely."
First of all the decision will not be President Bush's to make. Anybody who wants the troops to come home will vote democratic. I believe that both Hillary and Obama have made it quite clear that they will have the troops home within the next couple of years.

Actually, only the minions think this. Both Obama and Clinton have said troops would come home if its practical.
In other words, if you think you got a commitment from either to pull out, you don't.

They can't be very careful what they wish for. They won't get it.
