We have no clout anymore and no moral high ground to look down on Russia from. That is the main problem here. They seem to have planned this because their timing couln't be better for them. What are we going to do about it? Nothing much, which is just going to give Russia more momentum and less concern.

How does the US not have clout nor moral high ground?

The EU/eastern Europe are being threatened.

Europeans need to clean up the trash in their own neighborhood and quit being held hostage by Russian oil and gas.

Europeans need alternative fuels and to tear down all of those ancient energy wasting buildings to get off of Russian energy.

Europe has 6 times more people than Russia, yet Europeans are being held captive?
