Definitions
Ok i been wondering this for a bit and after starting debating with you guys on DTT i realized that many arguments are definitional i.e about how we actually define certain actions, events, people and ideologies.

So i have a few questions

1) what is "terrorism"?

2) who is a "terrorist"?

3) why do people resort to terrorism?

4) are violent reactions to violence terrorism?

In 2003 there were 11,920 civilians killed by gunfire in America. Terrorists???

Causing or threatening physical harm to humans to further a political or religious purpose.

2) who is a "terrorist"?

Anyone doing the above.

3) why do people resort to terrorism?

Because of religion, poverty, and misguidence (or lack of an education).

4) are violent reactions to violence terrorism?

Too vague of a question.

Yeah i think this is pretty much an accepted definition. But would that not include conventional wars too?

Alias:

I would like you to define clearly what a terrorist is according to you. If we can't agree on the definition of a terrorist then we cannot actually try and solve anything.

I say this because i wanna know if "terrorist" is just a curse, or whether it actually is a definition that can be applied to describe an ideology/religion/policy.
