I know its too comfortable to your whole chauvanistic and militaristic outlook on our country to believe this crap, but its just the simple fact that our soldiers are there to preserve our freedoms from foreign and domestic attack. True they played their part in the founding of our country, and in fact without them we would not be independent, but they didn't bring us freedom. They brought us independence, but for freedom and rights, you will need a collection of lawyers, judges, poets, scientists, physicians, and business men to give us our rights. Otherwise it would just be a military dictatorship. And I find it ironic that you would claim "the agitator" does not give us freedom; when, our bloody quest for independence and freedom from the thrown of England was an agitation.
Wow. That's really stupid!

Yes, the Declaration of Independence was signed by pens. Why? Because rifles don't have ink.

However, the "paper" declaration of independence became a real-life declaration of independence because men "took up arms". In other words, they had, and used, rifles.

The result? The beginning of a DEMOCRACY, NOT A MILITARY DICTATORSHIP.

History is NOT your strong-suit, is it?

You ever read one of Al Franken's book alias?

Do you comprehend the difference in words?
Thenewnoise was pointing out that soldiers were not SOLELY responsible for preserving our freedoms.
Soldiers are responsible for preserving our freedoms from threats OUTSIDE of the United States.
But the threats to our freedoms which come from WITHIN the United States are protected by an entirely different group of people.
Never read one of Al Franken's books and never. In my opinion he's nothing but a washed-up second rate comic looking to see who he can con. He's utterly stupid and a first class asshole and liar in my humble opinion.

If America lost a war and was taken over by Germany or Japan you would have no freedoms to protect. You don't quite get that either do you?

This is an epitome of how you operate.
You haven't read his stuff, yet you've already formed an opinion of him.

You've got no clue what he talks about, but in your mind you have already determined he is "a first class asshole and liar".

Typical...

I should have clarified. I have read some of his stuff, but I have never read an entire book of his. I know who he is and how he thinks by listening to Airhead America. Is that better?

Every man who signed that declaration put his life on the line the same as a soldier. If they failed to win, they would have all been hung. They weren't just signing checks to pay bills when they signed that. Again, a liberal who doesn't understand history.

No shit sherlock. If it helps any, I was speaking figuratively.

Well if you would have read my entire post I think I fully acknowleged that. And if you would have taken into account of what I was saying, you would realize I was speaking of the Constitution, not the Declaration of Independence, of the United States of America, which protects the very freedoms which you guys seem to claim our military has brought us soley.

Yup, but what I was saying is that our freedoms weren't to be assured if it weren't for those civilians who debated and wrote our Constitution. If you would read my post you would understand that I fully acknowlege that be it without the brave fighting men and women of our country, our country would not be possible and therefore our freedoms. But what I was mainly protesting to is the outlook which you guys have adopted that it was solely the military who have brought our freedoms; when in actuality, our country needed those civilians which wrote our constitution to contribute to us our rights which we hold dear today, and which our military protects today.

Hey, thanks. How nice of you to assume. If it helps any, I would like to point out that I'm a scholar of history and in contact with professional historians.

Dont let your personal biases speak on behalf of others. Strong opposition to Bush by historians shown here.
