Our soliders did not fight to strip people's freedoms, so it does not make sense that we should strip people's freedom unless we absolutely have to. Now tell me why we absolutely have to strip people's freedom to burn the flag? Stripping any freedom is far more an insult to our soliders than protecting that freedom.
I dont care how late i am replying to this subject, but I am against flag burning and i think it is wrong because it is a symbol of our country and it dishonors our country by burning it in protest.

Sometimes a country deserves dishonor because of its actions. Burning the flag is a way to express deep dissatisfaction with something politically and a freedom that should be protected.

I think the politician deserves dishonor..not the country. Holding up signs oppsosing the elected politician seems more fair to me than burning a flag.

Perhaps.

I'm not for burning the flag, but here's something that might bake your noodle:

But if turning the flag upside down is a valid way to express that your country is in distress (while still retaining patriotism), then can't burning the flag be a valid way to express your discontent with what your country is doing in the world?

Thumbs down
If someone was caught burning an American flag in my neighborhood, they would be hurting pretty bad (once the local populace was done with them).

And that would be nothing more than the "general populace" exercising their "freedom of expression".

I could ride a bike around some of the "black" areas of my city screaming, "Nigger nigger nigger nigger!" It'd be protected under the freedom of speech. But it'd also be in extremely poor taste, as well as EXTREMELY stupid.

Just because you CAN say or do something doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Freedom brings with it responsibility. Too many people in this country do not understand that. When you are burning the flag, you are not showing contempt for the current administration, you are showing contempt for what America has always and will always stand for. America is the greatest country that ever has been on the face of the earth. That is why it is in my mind a very dishonorable and dastardly thing to do and anyone who does it should have their damn nose broken.

Perhaps. But we need to stop bragging about being "the best country on Earth" and start acting like it.
