They dont harass you they just take the initiative.
LOL! Well said... That sounds like a line straight from recruiting training...

Dont show interest in them, if you dont want them to show interest in you.

They harvested my e-mail and got my contact information.
But yeah, I was interested in what they had to say and everything. Gave it a go, but they didn't convince me to enlist. I already knew what to expect from them and was trying to find out more about what I was interested in, such as OCS and everything. All they did was tell me it's much easier to be an officer when you enlist first than if you go as a civilian to OCS. Makes enough sense, but they wouldn't give me any info on it. I'm not sure if it's because they didn't know or simply weren't supposed to talk about that. Either way, I don't plan on joining before I finish college, and I quickly lost interest and told them I'm going to college first and foremost. That's when taking the initiative becomes "harassment". I told them I wasn't interested, and they show up at my work to tell meto join. I'm sure I let some sign of maybe being close to signing, but if a person says outright "I'm not interested" there's a point where they should stop worrying about their quota and realize they're really bothering someone. I have nothing personal against recruiters as a group; this was just my personal experience with the recruiters I've had contact with.

Not showing interest is not a detterent. As a recruiter you are told to focus your attention on those who seem uninterested, because those who are interested are the easy sell.

Actually that is a common bit of mis-information given out by recruiters. It is NOT easier to go to OCS and become an officer after enlisting. It's actually more difficult. If you want to be an officer the easiest way and the best way is to go in as an officer, it allows you much more time to get promoted. Trying to leave the enlisted ranks is a bitch. That is something recruiters will tell you because regular recruiters do not get credit for officer accessions.

I was an easy sell. My recruiter caught me on the way out to my car while I was cutting school. I was what I like to call an underachieving overachiever. I took the ASVAB 20 years ago so I don't know exactly what my score was, but I qualified for the highest tier of bonuses they had at the time and I got a year on DEP. I had a great time during my time in the Marines. I was a electronics tech so my job was pretty much just like a civilian's. 9 to 5 and party all night in Okinawa. I can't complain.
