Saddam's executioner, any volunteers?
On the news today they interviewed many people in Iraq about their thoughts on Saddam's hanging, which will take place within the next 30 days.

One Muslim woman said she would want to be the one to execute Saddam as Saddam has killed her husband and brothers. Another woman was interviewed and she also said she would love to be the one to end of the life of the monster, claiming Saddam is anything but human. A man was interviewed and he said that he would love to end Saddam's life as many of his relatives went through the death camps under his regime.

I agree with everyone. I also agree that Saddam is a monster that needs to be put down.

Who here believes Jesus died on the cross for the monsters?

(which is not the same as saying I disagree with you, even if I do...it is just a question to discuss in light of his countdown to the grave)

I believe Jesus died for the monsters. There were 2 others who were crucified with Jesus. They were guilty, he was not. Did Jesus stop those 2 from being executed? Nope. He could have performed a miracle and saved them. Looks like Jesus was in favor of capital punishment if you ask me.

I am very happy that you do believe that Jesus died for "the monsters"...

I weighed what you wrote, too, Alias about how Jesus did not perform a miracle to release those two criminals who were facing crucifixion that day on Calvary, along with him.

Well, yes, he could have. But his purpose was not to do miracles to interfere with a political decision such as that. He did miracles to advance the spiritual lives of folk, not to thwart the politcal agenda of that day. He was very singular in focus, and that to bring us Eternal Life. Not to cause an uprising by what would have occurred had he miraculously released those men from their fate that day.

I don't think you can conclude from his lack of action on their behalf that he is for the death penalty being meted out. I would say Jesus was against many kinds of oppressions and did not go about to overturn the political powers of that day.

Not to mention that he had passed the Gate Beautiful regularly and yet the lame man who was said to lay out there daily to beg, the man that Peter and John healed, was left unattended to by the Lord. Why?
He did not right all the wrongs. Rather he died for all of them, and lives again, that we too might die to self and live unto God.

I don't see capital punishment as wrong. Evidently Jesus didn't either. People must pay for their evil in this life. It says in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the land or the sword will take care of justice. That is why Jesus never addressed wars or self defense. He came to save souls, not stop war. He also said the poor would always be with us. That does not mean poverty is godly. It just means some people will not prosper and there is nothing you can do about others. I think Jesus' message was a personal one for our individual soul, not for remaking society.

I see you're up early. I'm about ready to start work. Where do you live? I'm in Eastern Washington right up there near Canada and about 1/4 mile from Idaho.

I find it quite fascinating that we both believe the same purpose of Jesus, as you said, "a personal one for our individual soul"...and yet, we come up with different conclusions about how that speaks to his guidance to us politically.

Not so early as you, Alias, I am in the CST zone. And I left my dishes overnight! So coming online was a way to procrastinate with the chores that I need to tend to, after one more cuppa coffee! Have a day that fills your heart with the assurance of God's tender-hearted love for you! TTFN

Since you like football........

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am
Make me a piece in your master game plan
Free from the earthly tempestion below
I’ve got the will, Lord if you’ve got the toe.

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Take all the brothers who’ve gone on before
And all of the sisters who’ve knocked on your door
All the departed dear loved ones of mine
Stick’em up front in the offensive line.

Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.

Yeah, Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life
End over end neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.
