That is a powerful message.

Here is a copy of a letter written by a group of people and sent to our Congressmen: (I sent several and have received no replies ... My Congressmen generally reply to letters, but not this one.)

"Support Virgil H. Goode Jr. (R-VA)

December 23, 2006

Dear Representative XXXXXX,
Thank you for taking my question on the conference call last week.
I appreciate your efforts for us.

Now I ask for your help regarding US Representative Virgil H. Goode Jr's efforts to stop use of the koran at the swearing-in ceremony of Representative-elect Keith Ellison.

In the last twenty-four hours, U.S Representative Virgil H. Goode Jr. (R-VA) has been subjected to an unfair and biased persecution, orchestrated by the extremist, Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), for positions that he expressed in a recent letter to his constituents. In this letter, Rep. Goode wrote with concern over Muslim immigration into the United States, and criticized the decision of Representative-elect Keith Ellison to use the Koran at his swearing-in ceremony. Rep. Goode has also received several threatening phone calls according to the Franklin County Sheriff - simply for writing a letter to his constituents.

Enough is enough. I am writing to ask for your support for Rep. Goode. The symbolism of using the Koran at a ceremony where Mr. Ellison will swear to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States should raise questions about the obvious conflict of interest that Mr. Ellison must have in fulfilling such an oath. We need to stand firm against pressure from extremist Islamist advocacy groups, and from their appeasers in the media and in our Congress.

Rep. Goode of course supports the right of any American to practice his or her religion, no matter what it is. So do I, and I know you do also. But he doesn't support the right to practice a dangerous political ideology, in the form of Radical Islam, which is masquerading as a religion.

Radical Islam is a political ideology, like communism or fascism, that threatens most Muslims and all non-Muslims worldwide. People of all other religions, including freedom-loving Muslims and atheists, are in its gunsights. All races are its victims, and people all over the world are being blown up, beheaded, tortured, and intimidated by those who act in the name of this bullying political ideology.

When Rep. Goode and our other elected representatives put their hands on the Bible to swear an oath, they are simply asking God to be their witness. They are not citing Christian or Jewish or other religious authority to justify or require any particular legislative action.

But a Muslim's holy book requires him to wage jihad and create certain political - not religious - institutions such as sharia law, which are in direct opposition to American values and the American Constitution. The Koran, which to Muslims is the word of God, compels believers to install by any means the legal and political system of sharia in all human societies. It regards the land as belonging only to Allah and commands believers to return it to the community of Islam from the occupying non-believers. The literal application of teachings in the Koran would compel our society to live under these harsh strictures of sharia law, the legal code prescribed by the Koran, which denies basic rights to women, prescribes death to Islam's apostates, and forbids or subjugates other religions.

This political ideology of Radical Islam is a clear and present danger in this country and throughout the civilized world. America's traditions of open-handedness and religious tolerance have been used against us. If we do not take a stance against this political ideology, and its apologists like CAIR, someday the tradition of American tolerance will no longer exist.

For this reason we ask you to support Rep. Goode in his concern that the Koran demands loyalties that directly counter our Constitutional liberties. We ask that you call on all Muslims in America to repudiate publicly the Islamic scriptures and traditions which sanction conquest by violence, oppression, and religious intolerance.

We live in a dangerous world, one in which deceit and disinformation are being used against us by an implacable enemy. Self-appointed spokesmen such as CAIR pretend to represent Muslim Americans but in fact represent nothing more than the interests of their fundamentalist millionaire backers. It is no longer enough to take their word that they and their co-religionists mean the rest of us no harm. It is both reasonable and prudent to ask Muslims to demonstrate by both word and deed that they support the United States Constitution and the rule of law, even if it disagrees with their religion's instructions. Especially if it disagrees with their religion's instructions.

This is the line we are drawing. We need to know who is standing on our side of the line, and we welcome you, and people of all religions, including Islam, to stand with us."

If you agree with the points made in the letter, feel free to copy it in whole or part and send it to your Congressman.

What a bunch of Islamophobic neo-Mccarthyist fear mongering. They thought the communists were destroying America because of phantom communists in the United States. That video mirrors the old social arguments in the 50's and 60's. Social conservatives thought America was being destroyed because blacks were entering the political mainstream, marrying their daughters and sons, and getting rights. Same bullshit, only rehashed against gays and Muslims.

I'm glad to say that it will blow over. Progress always prevails. It goes all throughout history. Systems of control are always absolved. Racial and social ignorance is quelled. I would say that it is a good point for us to ask the question, "have we forgotten?" I think that question should especially be asked in the White House, and on Capital Hill (spelled that way for a reason). Because those people are obviously more focused on American global dominance than anything. They're more focused on 'American interests' in the Middle East, rather than fighting the real enemy, which is Osama Bin Laden and his criminal ring; NOT Islam.

Too late, isn't it? If he was voted in, whatever book he puts his hand on, is a moot point now. He won an election, by what? Being a closet Muslim? Or by professing his faith as Islamic?

And to be truthful, all the men that have gone before that put their hand on the Bible did not make use of its message necessarily either.

Look at all the trouble our nation is in now. Watch the video. All that has gone before, happened while elected officials stuck their hand on the B-I-B-L-E!

Better to be dismayed for how the message of God through Christ is not being tended to by those who do swear on the Bible than to be bothered by a man who would swear on another said holy book.

And the mice were munching on the cheese and drinking wine as the ship went down. I'm sure they thought they were just fine.

Oh...Oh no!!! Yikes!!! You are right! I mean, if an elected official, voted to hold office, sticks his hand on the Quaran during his swearing in, the ship will surely go down.

And that while mice nibble cheese and sip wine...

Best to instead get him to put his hand on the Bible and be a hypocrite, being sworn in with a book he does not believe in.

That will be a good power show for the nation that is called the land of the free!

And per Alias' post, keep the ship afloat...

This one man is not responsible for sinking our ship, but he is one of many who filling the gap created by the liberals. Destroy everything Christian in America and then let a cult religion assume power in the name of diversity. Yes, laugh and laugh while your beloved country is sliding down the same hell hole as the rest of the world devoured by Islam. If you wish to live like the rest of the islamic world lives, great. Everywhere islam goes, there is nothing but poverty, misery, and violence.

Well Alias, I tried my hand at sarcasm...guess I don't wear that too well, huh?

This that I wrote though is to me the heart of the matter:
Quote:
Best to instead get him to put his hand on the Bible and be a hypocrite, being sworn in with a book he does not believe in.
Quote:
The man was already elected by the Minnesota voters in the 5th District. They voted a Muslim man into office. Now you think he ought to be made to be sworn into office on a book he does not believe in? What does that say to a watching world?

And worst of all, the absolute worst of all, is that men have sworn on the Bible countless times, and yet not believed its contents, not lived their lives or practiced their role as statesmen by the tenets set forth in its pages.

Its time to do away with swearing in on any kind of "holy book" imho...
Either as a believer, let your light so shine before men, by being an open book in how you live, or don't be a believer and demonstrate to the people, the ethics and value system that you do live by.

And once the people vote, guess they are electing who represents their own principles best.

Here, I will even throw this out to you, and that using a man you would disdain. Did President Clinton swear on the Bible? And in his inaugural speech, did he not clearly repeat verses from its text? Do you think the ship stayed afloat while he was in office because somehow he was appropriating the Word of God in his official duties because he put his hand on the Bible?

Any problem in this country, any problem at all, is not solved by what book is used to swear someone into office, is not solved by statesmen who are most aptly called "representatives"...

The problems in our country are those found in the lives of the average Joe Citizen...
if swearing on the quaran is such a point in a new downward spiralling trend of America at its best, then the problem if it is a problem is found in the minds of those who chose to vote for a practicing Muslim.

I really do wonder what you think is worse...a man who believes in a false God, or a man who claims to believe in the true God but then dethrones the true God to establish his own reign of power politics.

OD

PS...as an added thought, how would you feel if an atheist wanted to be sworn in using the book, The Blind Watchmaker?

Having trouble seening the forest for the trees.

I maintain that Islam is itself incompatible with Christianity. Western liberal scholars do their best to promote the idea that Islam means peace and love, but they can't hide the vengeful and perverted teachings easily found in Islamic writings.

'Innocent religion is now a message of hate'
It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims.
The hostage-takers of children in Beslan, North Ossetia, were Muslims. The other hostage-takers and subsequent murderers of the Nepalese chefs and workers in Iraq were also Muslims. Those involved in rape and murder in Darfur, Sudan, are Muslims, with other Muslims chosen to be their victims.
Those responsible for the attacks on residential towers in Riyadh and Khobar were Muslims.
Bin Laden is a Muslim. The majority of those who manned the suicide bombings against buses, vehicles, schools, houses and buildings, all over the world, were Muslim.
