| A TAX i COULD LIVE WITH
I was visiting my older brother this past weekend back in my hometown; and I came across something interesting. While out with my brother to pick up some beer, I remembered that I needed some stamps. I asked my brother to stop at a currency exchange we happened to be passing, and it was jam-packed in there.
My hometown has a very high Latino population nowadays; and what I noticed was that a great deal of the customers appeared to be using the Moneygram services to send money to relatives (probably out of country). I asked my brother if this was a normal occurence.
He replied that on weekends (it was last Friday) and on the beginnings of months that it was indeed common to see this.
That got me to thinking: Just how much money is being removed from our economy like this? I fully understand that economy is a global thing; but with that money leaving the American economy on a regular basis- if you put together all the institutions that perform this service- should we not put a tax on such a thing?
What do you all think?

| There doesn't need to be a tax. They were already taxed on their earnings and pay taxes for lots of other things, including sales tax on the things they have to buy.
What's the difference between this and rich white Americans hoarding money?
America has unprecedented wealth while people the world over is starving. It's highly immoral. It's not like every American chose to be born in America or was born there through some virtue of their own. | |

| It is not so much the difference that I was thinking about; it was the fact that so much money is leavingthis country and not being able to circulate through the economy. Neither are illegal- we cannot arrest one for sending a Moneygram no more than we can arrest someone for having a savings account. | |

The point is for example; if a Moneygram is sent to Mexico- or any other country- that is money that is removed from the economy and highly unlikely to return. Does this help or hurt our economy? | |

It's not like every American chose to be born in America or was born there through some virtue of their own. | Lets pretend I'm traveling out of the country and I need to exchange my currency..If I am taxed for that exchange, then when I return to the country will I be taxed again? That would be triple taxation (tax on my earnings, tax on double currency exchanges)
I don't think it's a good idea. | |

| The US sends billions of dollars to Mexico every year for oil because the tree huggers won't let us drill in America. Mexico and Canada provide the most of our imported oil so it seems like a bad idea unless you tax that money we send to them for oil purchases too.
How about we create a Immigration system and employment system that doesn't allow illegals to work in America and then only lawful, free citizens could decide how to spend their money. America sure doesn't seem to have a problem sending billions to China... the problem is illegal workers with too few jobs. | |
