Now here's the funny part: every fucking seat in coach was taken and I spent over 15 fucking hours cramped into an economy seat.

I have flown business class from then on...

I pay extra so I don't have to see that 20 min show of ads (whatever they call it..sometimes its called the 20) before the promos start. Its well worth it.
Those preview trailers are boring to watch and I don't pay attention to them.

I don't even go to the movies any more. Too many bad movies, and too many bad parents who don't make their kids behave. I wait till they are released for rental.

Hear!! Hear!! One of the best things about having a DVD movie is that you can always skip the ads until the feature movie is shown. Even when the VHS movie was there you had to put it on fast-forward.

I only go to movies that are more attractive to me like the Pirates trilogy. I guess I should make it a point to just show up 10 -15 minutes after the screen time listed in the papers. But who knows? I may have missed the first 10 -15 minutes of the actual movie already started.

And you can pause it if you need to go to the bathroom, or get more snacks. And back it up if you miss a line.

We have some friends close by who have pretty much the same taste in movies that my hubby and I have. Whenever any of us rent a movie, we always check to see if the other couple wants to see it too. Who ever has it last is responsible for returning it.

Amen to that. I may only go to the theaters once at least year, as I did last year when for the third installment of Pirates of the Carribean came on. I was vacationing in the Washington, DC area, and I saw the movie at a multiplex in Sterling, VA.

So I don't know if I will go this year unless Star Trek comes up with another Borg adventure.

Ah, but I think some films lose something not being seen on the big screen. Not all, but some.

I remember when they re-released the Star Wars Trilogy a few years ago, and my boys got to see it on the BIG screen (my local 20 screen multiplex has one theatre that seats 800 and has one of the HUGE, old fashioned monster screens, complete with state of the art sound system, very cool). It was a completely different experience then watching it on TV.

They did a 'Grease'' revival in this theater, it was SOLD OUT. And it was so cool, because a bunch of kids that had only ever seen it on TV were there, singing along , Rocky Horror-ish.

Some movies I think should be seen on the big screen:

Braveheart
Dances with Wolves
Gone With the Wind (I remember seeing this as a kid)
ET
Star Wars
Any Indiana Jones flick
Close Encounters.

Oh, and for the OP? Around $7-$7.50 for an evening show, $5.50 for matinee.

Out of the movies you listed, I'd only have to disagree with one of them....Dances with Wolves is best seen on the t.v.

That is, the EXTENDED version of Dances with Wolves.

They never released the extended version for the big screen and it's only available on dvd. And although the cinema version is good, the extended version is a much better presentation of the movie itself.

Ah, but seeing those expanses on the big screen, the buffalo hunt, with the sound in Dolby. Sorry, big screen, all the way.

I do think the extended version tells a better story, but for the pure panoramic experience? Naw.

Uh, we do have the best of both worlds, I think: flat big screen TV, like 42", with stereo speakers.

I have Dances With Wolves, too.
