We just gutted the computer a couple of days ago (The XP 128RAM one) for spare parts and such. We put the CD Drive and Ethernet card into another PC to replace some busted hardware. I'll probably install the floppy drive into the EMachines one when I get a chance, or maybe I'll just save it for a new build.
Everything I say is a lie, and that is the truth.

Needless to say, I'm up to 5 computers now. 1 Emachine, 3 Compaqs, and a HP.

EMachine T1400:
hard drive spins at a wopping 5400rpm, the fans are Loud as hell, and tech support is reputed to be shit (as most company's today.)

Its excellent processor performance is because of the poor performance of the built-in graphics card.

Expandability is limited. The T1400 has two SIMM slots, and both are in use. There's really no place to add additional internal drives. It does have three PCI slots, though the Ethernet card takes one of them and it doesn't use AGP.

OH. Now i see why it preformed so well for you. you probably weren't using it for anything else but typing up word documents.
I' came to this conclusion when you said you had 512mb of ram and seemed to think it was a good thing.

Yeah it got trashed quick. It has a 7200 150gig drive now.

Its excellent processor performance is because of the poor performance of the built-in graphics card.

Yeah that got upgraded with 128mb Nvidia pci card...

Actually it did have a place for an extra hard drive. And while I had it, it had a 300gb seagate as the second internal. Of course that blew the original power supply so I upgraded that to 400W too....But I gave the T1400 away when I moved.

512mb was the max for the T1400. The memory slots only took 256mb of memory each. It was used just for surfing the net and listening to music. I have 4 other computers scattered around the house. My neighbor across the street just gave me a T2341. Just ordered 256mb AGP video, 1gb memory, and gonna hook it up to my 32" LCD TV as a netsurfer until I finish my network shelf, then I'll throw a couple 500gb Seagates in it and use it as a music server while I'm at my dialysis clinic.

so basically your emachine failed several times, so now after repairs its basically a whole different computer.

why is it that no one can say "gee your right"? they always have to be at the top.

The information i posted was not pulled out of my ass. im looking at an old t1400 motherboard right now.
a customer a few years ago (who stiffed my on the bill btw(i was only a kid so i didnt do anything about it)) had me repair her t1400 because it wouldent turn on. i replaced the power supply and it worked for two days and then the motherboard blew. she then said forget it and i built her a new machine. she then claimed she already paid me.
so thats why i have a t1400 motherboard.
Any other information was from articles written about the all mighty crappyness of emachines. i know that emachines suck because they are often sent to me to be fixed!

Emachines once used a stolen capacitor formula. the formula was stolen WRONG and resulted in faulty motherboards. That's how great these units are. Dont get me wrong - emachine is not the only brand that used these boards.
(Badcaps.net - What Causes This. )

"I have had several eMachines of that vintage come thru . . everyone had ruptured capacitors . . eMachines used a really poor powersupply as well . . If you do replace the motherboard ( almost any MATX, Socket A will do ) suggest you also replace the powersupply." (E-Machine W2785 Service Manual - Tech Support Guy Forums)

Everyone has a different story when it comes to brand names. Most of the time, when someone stereotypes a computer brand name and says the company makes bad computers - they are usually just retarded and/or had one bad experience so now they say they are all bad - claiming that the computers do not run well and constantly have errors.
But this is physical damage and cheap parts known for failing.
Emachines were so great that they were BOUGHT OUT by another unpopular company - Gateway. (Gateway is bad IN MY OPINION. I have no proof that they are bad)

Not all Emachines are terrible; Before the company went private in 2001 is when they were using cheaper components. their whole deal was how inexpensive they were - how you too could own a computer for a low low price! with free AOL! WOWEE!

if you do a google search for "emachines" you will find plenty of stories and reviews that include words like "poor quality" and "limited" and "candidate for the shredder" and "known for giving children cancer and AIDS."

I'm pretty sure the device doesn't exist.
unfortunately.

However, we could start sharing other creepy cultural facts with each other!

No, my T1400 only failed once. It blew the power supply. A $14 fix.

why is it that no one can say "gee your right"? they always have to be at the top.

You started it. My Emachine gave me excellent service. Even the ugrades costed less than $100 through Ebay. I have no complaints.

If you say so. Mine never required repairs that I couldn't handle.

(Badcaps.net - What Causes This. )

Okay....And....Mine worked fine. And last check the person I gave it to is pleased as punch with it.

Yup, I had to replace the powersupply after I upgraded and added a hard drive. The computer worked fine before that.

I've heard that Compaq's suck. I own 3 and they are all working fine for me. Go figure.

Not all Emachines are terrible; Before the company went private in 2001 is when they were using cheaper components. their whole deal was how inexpensive they were - how you too could own a computer for a low low price! with free AOL! WOWEE!

Okay....And....My "new" Emachine was free. And the parts were cheap to upgrade it. I've spent $150 and gotten less. I'm pleased.

FANTASTIC! I AM HAPPY FOR YOU!
WANNA MAKE OUT?
You sure do know a bargain when you see one! you know how to save money while still getting what you need! I THINK YOU DESERVE THIS PRIZE - PERFECT FOR YOUR NEW HIGH END MACHINE:

IVE GOT A FEW PICS FOR YOU!
This is my "new" computer:

YOU SEE - I AM IN A SIMILAR SITUATION AS YOURS.
Mine was really cheap to upgrade - so now it runs with 16KB of RAM! And it runs Math Muncher and Oregon Trail very smoothly!
I too am pleased.

HEY! I found a new wallpaper that would go great with your machine!

I have enjoyed this conversation. i learned a lot.

I...didnt say what your computer looked like.
You're welcome?

Thank you for flooding the board with reposts of the images i posted.

Why do you keep coming back with excuses? why can no one else be right?
look at my posts and now look at your replies.

I understand your computer was free. Thats fsucking great. I cant pee without hitting a perfectly good free computer on the side of the road. (i often pee outdoors - in front of children, if the opportunity graces me)
i understand you upgraded it.
i understand it was cheap to upgrade. Thats even better. everyone likes a bargain.
i understand you are pleased with it and you may not need anything more. it's silly to buy huge high end machines if your not going to use them. i know not everyone has to have the best machine.
I'm not disputing any of this.

I'm saying EMachines Suck.
Fact.

PLEASE tell me, after all the irrefutable evidence and cited sources i have provided, that you understand this.
