I think internet forums would be rather boring if everybody liked one another and agreed with each other. That way you don't get bandwagoned when you post something that's not popular with most people.

To me it's not about being liked. I make my case and challenge others accordingly.

Based on the reactions I suspect many people enjoy my contributions as I tend to help maintain momentum.

Certainly I'm flattered by the amount of comment I inspire even when I'm not around!
Gary, I agree with your attitude towards DEBATE boards. But I do not agree with it about Social Boards, which is what I gather the St. Lucia Board was. Most people using boards like that are looking for the comfort and companionship of like minded people. And there is nothing wrong with that. If you truly mean what you say, I suspect you owe a lot of people a very public apology.

That is not the point. Why follow people who have moved to another board with the express purpose of avoiding you?

Since Gary won't answer that question, maybe you can.

And, BTW, I am not saying that you have ever done that. But maybe you have some insight into the phenomena.

I totally agree.
There are many people with whom I have EXTREMELY different viewpoints - both socially and politcally. However, they can discuss an issue without being offensive and insulting - which garysher makes a point of TRYING to be. He makes an offensive remark - and then spends hours defending it with insults.
I know of at least THREE message boards that I've tried to enjoy after he's ruined previous ones - and he always manages to show up. Out of thousands of internet websites. It can't be coincidence.
I think that he's actually deluded and irrational enough to think that people really like him - or, as he said in an earlier post, that people "appreciate" his contributions. Personally, I find those odd sentiments to have for somebody who you try to avoid by finding new places to join where he is not a member.

I'm sure we're all guilty of that from time to time .

In any case, the definition of mean-spirited or pointless is highly subjective, viz some of the posts attacking me on this thread.

Yahoo message boards are public boards on the world wide web.

I make no apology for making use of their facilities and am surprised that you asked!

If anyone really wants to start a private invitation-only chat room there are plenty of places to do so.

Did you ever consider the possibility that the comments you make toward people who disagree with homosexual marriage - that they are "homophobic" or "bigots" - may also be construed as offensive!!!

How could I participate if I was not a "member"??

Yahoo MB's are public forums.

Perhaps the reason you believe, incorrectly, that my views are not widely held is because you seek out places where you will only encounter like-minded people?

Anyone else you pretend to put on ignore, or you lambast them with offensive comments.

I'm sure we are all guilty of provoking others from time to time, but that's all part of a healthy discussion imho. If you really believe in what you stand for I don't see that it's a problem.
