Yeah and in the real world kids don't get to school on time when it starts as early as 7:30. Anything before 8:00 AM is ridiculous and even 8:00 AM is hard on people, parents included. You have no sympathy but you also don't have to get your kids to school in the morning before you go to work. There's no reason why schools can't start at 8:30 AM and go an extra hour into the afternoon. A lot of public schools get out at ridiculous times in the afternoon to me. If you use the real world argument, tadpole, then I could say alright why not have school be 9 AM - 5 PM just like the "real" world. Public schools will never go as late as 5 PM but there's no reason they have to start before 8:30 AM.
I understand what you are saying, and I can agree with 0830, but Jon metioned 1000... and that is simply ridiculous if you ask me. I agree that starting before 0800 is equally ridiculous.
Yeah I agree...I think 9:00 should be the cut off and I doubt many schools would ever go for that late of a starting time. At least we agree that before 8AM is unreasonable.
But it don't take much to get me by
So just booze me up and get me high

Re: Later hours for school??
I haven't really been following this thread so pardon me if this has been covered.

All I want to say about early school hours is this: High School students don't learn enough because of the early hours.

Scientists now tell us that as much as half of a day's new learning can be lost by lack of sleep that night. Grades and test scores seem to bear that out. In general, students who struggle or fail at school get less sleep than classmates who earn As and Bs. Three years after delaying their start time by an hour, a Minnesota school's average SAT scores rose 140-160 points--about 25 percent.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Sounds like whining to me. Let the kids go to bed earlier. It's nonsense. We make far too many excuses for mediocrity in this country. IMHO

If we want better High School results we need a resonable start time. When students have to get up at 5:30AM it just doesn't work.

I agree. But I have never met a kid who had to get up at 0530 to go to school unless they were in a military school, and those lucky bastards usually get better grades. I thought we've already agreed that school should start between 0800 and 0900.
