Trying to install XP with two new SATA drives
I am trying to install XP. I have two brand new 500 GB SATA Seagate hard drives hooked up to my motherboard. I also want to run RAID. But, for some reason during the setup it keeps saying that it cannot detect any hard drives even I went into my BIOS and can see that the motherboard is detecting atleast of the hard drives.

Do I need to install the drivers for my motherboard and/or the hard drives before running the xp setup??

Also which is better to run for RAID. Mirroring or striping and why??

You can't compare mirroring and striping on terms of which is better to run for RAID, they are both completely different. Stripe if you want performance, mirror if you want a backup. Or, do what my roommate did...Get 4 hard drives, use 2 for striping and 2 for raid

Check your mobo and make sure it supports 3gbps. If it doesn't, change the jumper to 1.5 so you don't fry the thing!

I am always comfortable with getting a new comp that already has whatever DOS is installed. The latest I have XP - home edition. Since Windows Vista is available, I would not ever load that into my comp. I don't think it is necessary.
