First of all, he will be offered the choice to pay up all back due payments as bail; then to be turned over to Knot) to avoid going to prison. If he does; then Step 2 is a moot point. And that is that liens will be placed upon everything he owns individually or jointly- bank accounts, real estate, stock, and everything else of real value.
My sister went through the same mess when she got divorced over twenty years ago. Her ex decided that he wasn't going to pay a darn thing; even after the divorce ruling by the court. But he foolishly made the mistake of marrying again; to a woman whom owned a house worth some decent bucks in Georgia (Atlanta, if I'm not mistaken). His new wife was even dumb enough to put his name on the deed to the house!
Once he was tracked down (admitedly not the easiest thing to do) all of this turned up in an asset search. That's when the state (Illinois) lowered the boom on him. He was able to avoid jail because he and his new wife refinanced the home. My sister wasn't looking to take the home from the new wife; she just wanted the money.
And yes, Knot; as Ali stated, this money accrues interest until it is repaid. In Illinois this was 12% the last time I looked. And it is collectible for life. You can also attach any legal fees of yours to this judgment.
I'm glad that you're back, Knot. I was beginning to wonder what had happened to you. We missed you!

Both of my sisters' husbands left them. My younger sister's ex-husband is not paying anything. She does not care. The last time he was tracked down, he was in Oklahoma. And to make matters worse, my younger sis is on disability. She can't work for the rest of her life.

The other one is living outside of Washington, DC. He is not paying anything I guess. Yet my older sis is working.

Not to minimize the financial support, but undoubtedly the children that are not financially supported by the father, are not given other essential support to their formative years or to their personhood even now.

Kids really really do need to have a dad who takes interest in their lives, offers affirmation and instruction. Love and tenderness...

Thanks, Joe.

This is something else I'm wondering....

He was ordered to cover the kids on his insurance. Since he decided to quit his job and disappear, I've been paying for their health coverage out of my paycheck, what amounts to over $200 a month.

I wonder if that's re-imbursable to me?

I am gonna guess that it is not Knotty. Only cos you most likely claimed them on your taxes? Just a guess...but do find out what you can.

OhDear
That could be grounds for a civil suit against her ex, OhDear. Just wondering if it is. Joe might know, though.

OhDear

OMG, that reminds me...

He's also in trouble with the IRS because he claimed head of household on his taxes and took the boys as dependents while they were living 100% of the time with me and he wasn't paying any support.

LOL

Talk about your jumping from the frying pan into the fire....

It sounds to me, that VERY soon, he's going to be wishing he had just done things right, and paid the child support!
Bother not the cat. For they are sneaky and will piss on thy keyboard.

If only you girlies would be more careful about choosing a husband instead of being so desperate to float down the aisle in a white gown.
