What she has on her hands is actually henna tattoos. it's old tradition in the subcontinent to get your hands and feet covered in intricate patterns. Some places both bride and groom get it done, but nowadays it's more common for just the girls getting it done.

In fact the traditional wedding in pakistan consists of 3 separate events. The first one is actually called the "mehndi" which means "henna". This is the event that celebrates the impending nuptials of the girl. It is held by the girl's family with only a few representatives of the guy's family there. Sort of like a hen-night.

Nowadays the biggest party tends to be the mehndi. My sister-in-law is an actor/choreographer/dancer and she put together some intricate dances in the truest bollywood style for our wedding. Quite spectacular actually.

Never managed to get any pictures of the dances, but i think we have some video footage of it so i may just post that for everybody to check out.

I have to admit Knot, that is truly spectacular. Being from a totally mixed background myself i really enjoy the thought of such a harmonious blend.
