It's totally different than in 2005.
Why didn't Nagin do this in 2005?
Why did Nagin blame President Bush in 2005, when Bush did not have the Constitutional authority to do Nagin's job? |

I'm so glad I live in southern California. | Well, you and I may both live in SoCal, but where one area has hurricanes, another is prone to earthquakes, such as we are located in. L.A. gets more of them than San Diego does.

| A lot of lessons were learned from the first time. Hurricanes are not to be messed with.

In 2005, I wondered why, when the city of NO and the state of LA knew the levees were in bad shape, did THEY do nothing to shore them up? It isn't a federal deal, surely? Around here, the STATE and local municpalities are responsible for things like bridges, levees, dams...makes sense, since if something lets lose, it is going to effect that area, not the whole country.
ALL cities/towns should have emergency plans on hand, regularly reviewed and revised as needed, for disasters which are known to happen in that area, or man-made (this includes massive fires and bombings) The federal government shouldn't have to get on their cases to do this....it is common sense.
