Destiny
I spent about nine years in Korea in my military career in installments and learned a great deal about the culture. Did you know that Koreans believe in destiny and shape their government and culture around it? For example, they believe that all people are born to become something and that could range from a mass murderer to a brain surgeon, they only demand that you be very good at what ever your place in life is and they have no respect for those who don't meet the bar... to not meet the bar means total rejection from the mob.

Strange rules include guarding your property, farmers will sit in trees guarding their crops as they near maturity because others that were born thief's will be very good at stealing those crops. All homes in Korea are expected to be guarded by the owners 24-7 and if you get robbed it is your fault because the thief was meeting his destiny stealing your stuff when you were too stupid to guard your stuff. An exception are high elected officials and police... thief's are professional and must know what homes they are breaking into so to break into an off limit home is a no no. It is a disgrace to be less than excellent in your destiny and in the case of the thief stealing from the police they are punished without trial... the hands, tools of the thief are placed on a table and a steel rod is used to crush all the bones in the hands to the wrists. Then the loser is turned lose to eat with the wild dogs from the trash and no other Korean will give them a penny or a crust of bread because he has shamed his destiny by being poor at his job in life.

Because of this group mentality cops, riot control troops often clash with large mobs of groups that are very good at what they do... if you Google protests and Korea you can get billions of hits. Koreans believe other Koreans don't lie and it is very hard to negotiate with them involving disputes. Could you live in a culture of experts living out their individual destinies?
