If I had been in the states I'd probably got caught too because I flipped a couple homes when I was in the army because I do fix up work, I'm a handy man of sorts. Others simply took equity out of their homes to the point they are paying two mortgages now for "future spending money". My home payment is the same as it was for years and will be paid off in a few months. It won't be worth as much as it was a few months ago but it will rise in value again in time, I used a lawyer to review the mortgage when I signed the contract.

I'm pretty sure this housing thing was started by the members of the US Senate and House of Representatives desiring to help people of color become home owners. And, I don't have a problem with that but the way the semi government agencies reacted to congress's guidance... damn they gave loans to illegal immigrants without residency status.

And racists always blame all the problems of society on 'people of color'.

That's what happens here in West Hollywood, it's wall-to-wall homosexuals.

They even have a sex shop on Sta Monica Blvd called Gay Mart (geddit?)

I really don't think Zack has expressed any racist views in this thread, infact quite the opposite, especially if you look at the first definition of racism below.

The mere fact that people use a phrase like 'people of colour' could be construed as racial discrimination. If we're all the same why do we even need to separate out everyone who isn't white?

racism, noun
1. the belief that there are characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to each race.
2. discrimination against or antagonism towards other races.

Aren't you contradicting yourself here?

2 things.

First, this is just one person's opinion. One person's opinion is another person's drivel.

Second, I saw no mention in the article about 'people of color'. I believe that was your insertion.

And, for what it's worth, I don't think it had anything to do with government, other then the fact government stayed out of it until it was too late.

The crisis was created by 2 things, Americans that live beyond their means, and I mean ALL Americans, black, white, yellow, red or blue, and unethical mortgage brokers selling ARM's at incredibly high interest rates.

Interestingly enough, that's exactly what your link says.

OK take a look at this link 03/11/08: Liberal Democrats caused sub-prime mortgage crisis and keep in mind bankruptcy laws were changed during the Bush administration that caused poor people to have a harder time filing bankruptcy.

Care to give facts instead of one man's opinion?

I'm also wondering, did you read that first article you posted?

The basic problem is not poor teachers or poor politicians; the problem is poor citizens. Until citizens accept their responsibility to become sophisticated we shall not overcome. We have met the enemy and s/he is us.
