The only way any real change will come to these shithole African nations is to distribute the wealth more evenly. Dictators won't do that. In the meantime you do-gooders are wasting your cash and ultimately making a small corrupt elite even richer.

Sorry, but I disagree with you about that. You refuse to understand the ploitical situation in Darfur, and that the president of that country is not getting anything from the relief dollars. He is getting stuff from the Chinese.

And to do nothing in the face of genocide is unforgivable, and makes one partially responsible for it.

There is the very good possibility that, even if loads of money and other aid is thrown at victims in Sudan and actually reach such victims, this is only a band-aid for the situation since this isn't a long-term solution.

I agree with that too. Unfortunately, I don't believe that the relief dollars are even getting to the people that really need it.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it.

PN, I have recently seen a show on PBS showing relief workers (from a private organization not a government) working amongst the Darfur refugees. Are you saying that was fake?

Because, if it was real, then at least one organization is, in fact, getting its dollars to the people who need them.

The corrupt government probably allows some relief (and workers) to get through to show that they are really allocating the money properly - especially if it gets captured by the media.

What you do not seem to be understanding is that these are private relief organizations. "The government" has no control over their money.

The only control "the government" has is whether or not it allows them in to do their work.

Exactly. The only thing that the president of Sudan can do to stop the relief workers and aid, is to keep them out of the country, or allow them to be attacked by the militias that work with his approval. And the aid and relief is mostly given at the border between Sudan and Chad. That is where the refugee camps are that attemp to aid the nearly 2 million displaced from the genocide.

I have asked this before so here goes again, why were so many out in the streets in the 60's and 70's and today no one shows up. How have we changed as a culture? Too busy checking emails?
