Written by Carley Sheehan 14 year old sister (at the time) Casey died!
Honor the fallen: Army Spc. Casey Sheehan

A Nation Rocked to Sleep
by Carly Sheehan

Army Spc. Casey Sheehan was killed in Bagdad on April 4th 2004. His younger sister Carly wrote this poem about her brothers death. Carly's poem has been posted at the Veterans for Peace memorial in Santa Barbara, California and is making quite an impact on those who have read it.

Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
The torrential rains of a mother's weeping will never be done
They call him a hero, you should be glad that he's one, but
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?

Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
He must be brave because his boy died for another man's lies
The only grief he allows himself are long, deep sighs
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?

Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
They say that he died so that the flag will continue to wave
But I believe he died because they had oil to save
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?

Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
The leaders want to keep you numb so the pain won't be so deep
But if we the people let them continue another mother will weep
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
Live the Light, Give the Light,

Cindy Sheehan didn't even raise her son
You Cindy Sheehan supporters need to know that she didn't even raise the son she is so on about being killed in Iraq.

What is most interesting to me is that the press gives this
little bunch of people who are protesting with Cindy so much air time
without discussing Cindy's background. This is a case of more press bias. It has
been pointed out on just a couple of media outlets that Cindy divorced her
first husband and left her son with him to be raised while she became a
political activist for the Democratic Party. She had very little to do with her son
in his growing years. She remarried. The 1st husband remarried. The
original father raised the son with his new wife. They miss their son and mourn
the loss of his life. They have stated that they are very proud of their son
and that they agree with the stance of America in Iraq and on terror. They
said that their son was eager to serve and to go fight the terrorists in Iraq.
He volunteered. How many news stations carried their interview? Not many.
So the son dies in Iraq and then Cindy shows up to make a stink. She gets an
audience with Bush. That was not enough. She goes to Crawford and demands
another audience. How many news stations carry the ongoing saga of Cindy?
Practically all of them. Cindy didn't care about her son. She let another
woman raise him. Cindy doesn't care about the other soldiers in Iraq. Cindy
cares about her liberal, feminist agenda and about using the death of her son
to lobby against Republicans and Bush. And the press is helping her. Why?
Then 2 days ago, Cindy's 2nd husband filed for a divorce from Cindy. Cindy
sounds like a feminist opportunist who did not have the sense of
responsibility to even raise her own son. It looks like her 2nd husband is fed up with
Cindy. We middle Americans should be fed up with Cindy also. We should be
fed up with the press. They manipulate us into their "group think" and into
the responses that they want on their polls.

She and her husband raised all their children, get it straight!

Sheehan's Husband Seeks Divorce

AUGUST 15--The next well-wisher approaching Cindy Sheehan at her tent encampment outside President George W. Bush's Texas vacation home may actually be a process server. That's because the California woman's husband--in a curious bit of timing--filed for divorce Friday afternoon (below you'll find a copy of Patrick Sheehan's complaint, lodged August 12 in Solano County District Court). With Sheehan, 48, entering a second week outside Bush's Crawford retreat, her husband's divorce petition cites "irreconcilable differences" for the demise of the couple's 28-year marriage (the Sheehans, the document states, have been separated since June 1). Along with a Vacaville home, Patrick Sheehan listed other "community assets" as "any and all benefits payable as a result of son's death," including a Prudential insurance policy and "benefits from the U.S. Government." From her roadside outpost, Sheehan, whose 24-year-old son Casey, an Army Specialist, was killed last year in Iraq, has become the face of the U.S. antiwar movement, telling reporters that she will not budge until Bush meets with her and explains "why our sons are dead." Noting that Bush has referred to the war as a "noble" pursuit, Sheehan told Reuters, "If it's such a noble cause, why aren't his daughters over there?" Through an aide, Patrick Sheehan's lawyer, Glen DeRonde, declined to comment about the court filing, so it is unclear whether the divorce complaint will be delivered to Cindy Sheehan in Texas or when she returns to her home east of San Francisco. Just because you found information on the internet does not make it true. Anyone can put up a website these days, and put pretty much anything they like on it. You need to reference your information's source, especially in a debate.

It's pretty absurd to suggest that she didn't even raise her son. There has been a lot of lies spun around Cindy Sheehan, even among the mainstream media, and I've gotten pretty used to it as I'm sure Cindy has too, but I think this is probably one of the more absurd ones.

I met Cindy when I was camping in Crawford outside Bush's ranch with her and the other supporters. There was absolutely no reason given for me to even suggest that she would be lying about her son. I'd trust a mother mourning over the loss of her son, talking straight to me, rather than some faceless conservative blogger with a website that has an obvious agenda.

Snopes is a pretty reliable source for the truth on Internet rumors. I found this there.

The piece quoted above, criticizing Mrs. Sheehan’s alleged lack of involvement in her son’s upbringing after divorcing his father, is something fabricated out of whole cloth, evidently the product of someone’s confusing a completely different family with the Sheehans. Cindy Sheehan and her husband, Patrick, were high school sweethearts who wed while both were in the early 20’s. and who have been married to each other for over 28 years. (Neither has ever been married to anyone else.) The couple had four children together, of whom Casey was the oldest. Both parents raised Casey together, first in the southern California community of Norwalk and later in the northern California town of Vacaville, where the Sheehans moved when Casey was 14.

I understand that. So I'm asking - what is true? Did she raise her son or not?

Snopes.com is in the business of debunking Internet myths and they say she did raise her son. Snopes does not appear to have any agenda aside from uncovering the truth. That answers the question for me.
