Proggrssive Democrats of America
Actions Against the Iraq War
October 27, 2007
Regional actions across the country: Seattle | San Francisco |
Los Angeles | Salt Lake City | New Orleans |Chicago |
Boston| New York | Philadelphia | Jonesboro, TN | Orlando

Dear Rev. Ty,
When PDA launched the Fall Peace Offensive ( Peace Momentum Building as Iraq Support Sours - Progressive Democrats of America ) in August, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and PDA Advisory Board member Rep. Lynn Woolsey said, "As a growing majority of the American public continues to demand that we bring our troops home from Iraq, it is essential that we have a coordinated grassroots effort to hold elected officials accountable.”
We had hopes that Congress would have acted by now to bring U.S. troops and private military forces home from Iraq, so we must show them the breadth and depth of antiwar sentiment in this nation...
On October 27 take action and take to the streets--join us!
(Go to the above link for details on how to get invovled, to download signs and get bumper stickers.)

It can't be any worse than sitting on your ass at your computer typing in stale jokes on an online debate forum.

I'm in Iraq right now and, believe me, we don't have alot of time to sit on our ass. I'm moving to Victory Base Camp tomorrow. Posting on this forum is one of the few enjoyable things I can do here.

By the way, my previous post was no joke. Blackhawks fly overhead here every few minutes - an organized protest in America isn't going to stop that.

Wow, aren't I an ass now. Sorry, I was not awares.

But, nonetheless, protesting is more productive than chatting on an online forum.

No problem Kat. You and I just differ on the value of protesting. I'm in Iraq for 4 months on a contract job. I'm a civilian engineer - not a soldier; therefore, I'm fairly safe. I'm living right next to an airfield, so the helicopters are a constant presense. Like everything else here, you get used to it.

Interesting. Do you work on military equipment or actual Iraqi infrastructure? Nothing pretentious just curious. I'm just wondering how much we're exactly doing to 'build Iraq'.

Civilians receive their more than fair share of violence over there. Especially drivers. You say you're not a soldier, but in my eyes you're still doing a good service (engineer; whether that be helping out the military or Iraqis) while putting your own health in risk. For that I thank you.

I'm the resident electrical engineer for 2 new power plants being installed at Victory Base Camp (in Baghdad). The power plants are for the benefit of the American military base here and not the actual Iraqi infrastructure. I will also be involved in upgrading the power plants at several bases outside of Baghdad. Everytime we travel off the base it must be by armed transport and we must wear body armor and helmets; therefore, there is some risk associated with the job.

I appreciate the gratitude; however, I am being paid very well for doing this.
