Level up: 1%, 42 Points needed | | Prisoners re-enter society Hi everyone, I think that every person has his right to live in a society no matter even if he was a prisoner in his early life. Most of the prisoners are racial or ethnic minorities and have difficulty in re-entering the society as they are faced with poverty and this leads to crime for which they are re-arrested are convicted and re-incarcerated and this adds a burden on the government in respect of tax-payers. What are your views on this? |

No seriously, I think I see where you are going. And in a way I agree with you. But many times prisoners dig their own hole. No one forces anyone to commit a crime. The problem I see is with everything being made a felony. It seems like any time you break the law these days it's a felony. There's no coming back from that.

What are your views on this? | I agree with this part of your post. I believe many prisoners have trouble adapting to life on the outside simply because they have have been incarcerated for so long, they simply don't know how to live on the outside. Some prisoners may deliberately reoffend because they feel more comfortable inside. |

Level up: 1%, 48 Points needed | | This is a very good issue to discuss about as it is concerned with the human race and deals with the real problems faced in the society. The Second Chance Act is taken in this way and hope that it brings a new dawn for the people. I believe you can also express your views on this on savetheleft which is good place to know your comments on such issues. |

Level up: 57%, 94 Points needed | | I guess it would depend on the crime, wouldn't it?
Would I trust a pedophile to drive a school bus?
Would I like to know if a rapist lived next door?
Would I trust someone who has been to jail for stealing to run the cash register in a store?
To a certain extent, (and I can't believe I'm saying this) I agree with FX. You commit a crime, you have made a choice.
With that said, I do believe that people convicted of lesser offenses shouldn't be considered the same as serious criminals. For example, here in Michigan we have a really stupid law, called Driver's Responsibility law. Basically, what it is you get a ticket for something, and not only do you have to pay the ticket, but the state measures a fee against your license. If you don't pay the fee (which many people can't afford), your license gets suspended.
What's happening is, many people are getting arrested and sent to jail for driving on suspended licenses for the above reason. Should those people be considered the same as a murderer or rapist? Absolutely not. Drug users, either, or petty criminals. |
